Really cool all the negative votes for the Amazon reviews. I agree. Don't review a product you don't have your paws on yet. Anyone can read the hype and what's included. Reviews are for the actual product.

Someone wake me when the play old regular LoA comes available.

It's rather unfortunate that Sony decided not to spread the movie across two discs.

Absolutely. How would the special features justify two full BDs anyway? From what I've heard so far, one disc would be plenty. With space left, too.

Yeah, it's such a pain in the ass not having to stop and put in a new disc to enjoy one movie.

Lol - I appreciate your point, and I would generally agree with you. Once we're in the realm of 75-100+ GB Blu-Ray capacities, I'll be totally in in line with that sort of thinking.

However, when compression risks the quality (albeit on a minor level, generally) of highly detailed film whose scope and precision are hallmarks, it becomes an issue. If Ben-Hur was released on one disc, we could not have had the stunning transfer that we eventually received from WB.

I hate having to change the discs, too. As long as the transfer doesnt suffer, I cant WAIT for the day when entire television seasons are available on a single disc. I'm sure that marketing schemes from studios will inhibit that possibility far longer than technological progress.

Until such days, I'm willing to suck it up and get off of my butt and change the disc. Im sure that it's the most exercise that I get during the week.

If Sony is going to charge an arm and a leg of course they are are going to maximize profit by putting it on one disc. I'll wait for the regular priced version, the one that will cost 1/4 or 1/5 the price for the same one disc movie.

Haha, just giving you a hard time - we'll just have to wait and see how the picture quality turns out. If it looks like it suffered from being on one disc, then I'll have to agree with you.

Do you guys know something the Lawrence team over at Sony doesn't know about in Re: 1 or 2 discs?

Exactly! I was definitely in the "spread over 2 disc" camp, but if RAH seems to appreciate this film on 1 disc, I'm quite certain I can too!
Can't wait to have this set!

Forget RAH - if Grover Crisp and Co. think there's enough room on one disc then the smart money says there's enough room on one disc.

Whatever little quibbles I might have about Sony's overall release strategies (such that they still are) there's no question their restoration, mastering and authoring efforts are among the best -if not the best - in the business.

I've only seen 1 post from Grover Crisp and it resulted in the shutdown of one of the biggest, most attended thread on this site, and he wasn't talking about the merits of LoA. That's not to say that he hasn't, just I have not seem him mention anything.(of course I'm not actively looking either).
OTOH, I've seen RAH post on this site(or via links to HTF), and his having no problem with the movie on 1 disc.
So, either a: Grover Crisp or Robert A. Harris stamp of approval is good enough for me!

Unfortunately, without seeing what it would look like spread across two discs for comparision, we will never know.

This will be the Release of the Year... In a very strong year at that.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

it's yet to be confirmed but the theatrical screening is tentatively set for October 4th with two screenings (2pm and 7pm) (something along the lines with what Cinemark chains does for it's classic cinema screenings)
