As most BD owners can attest: thet work and hold up much more than they don't.
So I will continue to enjoy the greatest year the format has known, crowned by the release of LoA. Then after 2012 is over, I'll be looking forward to all the BD releases in 2013! It's a good time to be BD enthusiast, IMHO.

Edit: Why are you promoting steaming in the LoA thread?

Kids, loaning them to friends, scratches not noticed from shipping and later found, etc.. I've rented 6 discs recently via Dish's Blockbuster program. One of those, Planet of The Apes skipped a whole section due to scratching. And I've had scratched NetFlix BD that didn't work back when I had their disc at home program. Tell you one thing through. I bought digital games off the PSN over the past 5 years and have repeatedly downloaded them to the 5 different PS3's I've owned without issue.

Again, how is this even, remotely, relevant to LoA?

Not promoting. I agreed with a post that if the movie, LoA, is on one disc that a person can like that no matter who says its inferior or why. I said I agree with that and had the same view on HD streaming. TO which YOU jumped on that with your two little feet. Because as the poster I agreed with said, you can like something no matter who disagrees with you or why. Yet you have to come in and tell people how inferior it is. I don't care. Just like I think LoA on one disc will be FINE. Get over yourself. My watching LoA streaming or however I will watch it effects you HOW?

I was dead-set on getting the boxset of this, but if all the $40+ difference nets is:

-a blu of (probably the lesser) extras [which I'd probably watch once]
-a soundtrack CD
-a book [the only extra I'd probably really miss, but not worth $40]
-a DVD [worthless]
-and a film cell

...I think I can pass, esp since that'd open up room in the budget to procure one of the other myriad sets/releases coming out. Esp since the UK release comes out a full two (2!) months earlier.

I've still got them both on pre-order...but I'm heavily leaning towards the cheaper release right now.

All sounds like neglect to me. Don't let the kids touch your movies. My kid is 2 and he already knows that boundary. Don't lend them out, either.

The box has a DVD?

Why even bother? Just include a Lawrence coaster instead.

I think I may opt for the cheaper release, too.

Which would actually be useful to rest a beverage on whilst I settle back into epic-watching mode.

And I mis-calculated: the net difference actually comes to ~$50. Which makes this choice that much easier, now.

Yeah, I think I am right with you guys. I have had the Collectors set pre-ordered since the day is was able to pre-order, however the UK edition is looking like my best option at this point. The cost is just too much. I may pick it up years down the line when it drops to $25, but until then I think I may cancel my US Collectors Edition and just get the UK versio which comes out next week and even after shipping is under $20usd!

Amen! My little boy will be 2 in couple months...he rarely makes it into my "mancave". With about 200+ nascar diecasts, 50 sideshow statues, 700+BD with UCEs, boxed sets, etc ALL on display...yeah he won't be spending regular time down there until he's in his teens!

I have a 3-year-old boy and another one on the way before Christmas. I may need to block off my ever-growing movie collection. He learned the hard way after 1 time of him shaking my Blu-rays off the shelf.

Hey, congratulations on the good news!
Yeah I have all my UCE's etc in a locking display cabinet, and all my regular BD/digibooks/steelbooks in a locking media cabinet! The are both tall, so they don't take up much of a footprint. Out of sight, out of mind.
Needless to say, LoA CE will be going on the top shelf of my display cabinet!

Thank you!

I have a wide "hovering" shelf about 7 feet up on the wall to avoid little slimy sticky fingers getting to my collectors boxsets. I can bairly reach them.

Hah! That's great...just make sure to keep brooms, long reaching items out of little inquistive hands too!

Not that it really changes anything - and I agree, that's one expensive book - the limited edition boxset doesn't have a DVD, which I also agree is worthless. It had 3 BDs (1 for film, 2 for extra features) and the soundtrack CD. That's Warner's game, to give you as many DVDs as BDs in a super dooper ultra limited collector's boxset. Sony would just as soon see DVD die it's long past due demise.

Amen +1000

I don't let anyone touch my collection that does not take care of them. There are some close friends that I will loan to. But they know how to take care of discs.

Heck my wife is paranoid about touching them LOL.

It is all about taking care of them.
