Sorry if this has been asked already.

Is there a difference between the movies, Lawrence of Arabia [Blu-ray] [1962][Region Free], being released September 10, 2012 in the UK and the Lawrence of Arabia (Restored Version) [Blu-ray] (1989) being released in the U.S, November 13, 2012?

Is one the restoration of the original 1962 version and the other the restoration of the 1989 version that was restored?

They should be the same. I don't know where that 1989 came from, but it is the regular edition releasing on the same date as the Collector's Edition.

I have the UK version pre-ordered. Should arrive next week.

Both are from the 8K/4k restoration project. '1989' refers to the Director's Cut released then.

News from UK that their 10 Sept 2 disc LOA version is now shipping!! (mine on order there, some worry it may have been delayed to match US release)

Hmmm. After some investigating, it seems that Fathom will indeed be shipping the film to theaters on hard drives and showing it in either 2K or 4K, depending on what the theater is capable of (update: my Regal Cinemas theater has 4K - yay!).

This being the case - I'm going to have to use some major will power to hold off watching it until after the October 4th showings. If this is going to be a high quality screening, that's definitely how I want to experience this restoration first. Truth be told, with the luck I'm having with UK to US shipping lately, it probably won't arrive until after that anyway.

Okay thanks. The exact same discs will be in there they shouldn't name it differently.

By the way, the UK has their own Collector's Edition now, but delayed to Nov 12. The regular edition is still being released on Sept 10.

Are there any reviews floating around for the UK version due out next week?

Really getting sick of having to decide to buy a huge boxset of stuff I don't care to own or buy the 2 disc and miss out on special features I want.

I wish Sony and WB ( and others who do this) would figure out some of us want all the special features, but don't want to be forced to buy a huge boxset. Frustrating. Because of this I'll probably wait until this hits the bargain bin.

I'm sure they realize that, and it's the very reason why they include exclusives in such a set. They know some will pony up for it and thus they'll make more money than they would have otherwise.

There was one a few pages back but it wasn't terribly detailed. It included dramatically downsized caps.

How would you go about finding out where its showing in 4K or not? Would it just be a matter of calling the theatre and asking?
Cause right now Im stuck between seeing this in Bellingham which is closer to where I live (in Vancouver) at one of the Regal Cinemas or going to Seattle and seeiing it at one of the AMC theaters (which I know will be 4K).
I refuse to see this in anything less than a 4K showing.

unfortunately yes,

if your theater has a Sony projector - it's a guarantee. But if it's another projector: Barco, Christie, NEC, I'd double check with management.

And even then I wouldn't be so sure.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I was planning on buying the 50th anniversary collectors set from amazon and was wondering whether it's region free.

(I know the UK two disc is region free but I want all the exclusive extras!)

The Collectors Edition is available both in US and UK, so region coding is irrelevant as you can get it from both regions.

But to answer, it should be region free just like other Sony catalog releases.

Does anyone know what "Original 1963 version of Wind, Sand and Star" is in the Collector's Edition? Is it a featurette or some other kind of material?

Disc 2 already has the 1970 featurette "Wind, Sand and Star: The Making of a Classic", which we have already seen on older DVDs. Is the 1960 version something different? IMDB doesn't have either.

I just noticed that the UK version is 224 minutes, but the US version is 227 minutes. Is the US version an extended version? I have the UK version on preorder (and it's on the way so I'll be getting it shortly). Now that the US version is listed at 2 disc, and seeing it has extra minutes, I'm starting to wonder if it was a mistake to get the UK version in place of the US version, despite liking that I'll be getting it 2 months before the US version is out. Ultimately, I just want the best version.
