There is one screen capture I would like to see (and I will see it soon since I'm getting the UK edition). There is a dramatic moment in the film where we see the barely visible human figure in the far horizon of the desert. Those who've seen the film know which moment I'm referring to. On VHS, that "dot" of a human figure is totally invisible. On DVD, it's barely visible but still requires some imagination. This Blu-ray's hi-def picture is going to give us the best ever look of that memorable moment on home video.

Majority of the reason this looks great is because it was scanned at 8K and was taken the time along with care to make it still appear to be a 65mm/70mm film, especially with the film grain. True AVC is literally one of my favourite current codecs but even the same movie released in a different country on Blu-ray can even look far superior to a version released here in the United States. It's also why I enjoy importing.
There ought to be a strict standard for all companies not to DNR/EE the hell out of their releases if the release in question originates from film grain.
All-in-all, Lawrence of Arabia looks absolutely stunning for the disc space it's on. Deserves solid 5s all around and a very highly recommended, including bolding, for the review.

EDIT: This is one of those rare times when I'll actually be glad to buy the Collector's Edition, even though I wouldn't have much space to put it. Excellent job Sony Home Entertainment and those involved!

EDIT EDIT: Now I'd like Lord Jim to be on Blu-ray.

If this film comes out in 8k blu ray in the future i would buy it.

Looking at the caps, the transfer looks absolutely stunning. Probably among the best I've ever seen on Blu.

Me too. I hate spending that for a single movie and I also dislike large boxes when the same components could have easily fit in a smaller (usually less deep) box, but I'm making an exception for this one. I don't think I can think of another film that I would feel that way about. I think it's the 70mm frame that won me over. I think some of the pages of the book come from the original program, which I used to own and might still be buried somewhere in my mother's house.

Lawrence of Arabia in high definition was one of the switching points for many home enthusiasts, and we have been waiting a looooooooong time for Sonys remaster of this great film.

I ordered the UK edition in late-July and is dispatched last week. Should be here by the 17th. Paid $19 bucks or so to my door. Great deal. Why wait? I dont need no fancy edition or extra packaging. The movie is the attraction for me

Looks like Amazon removed the collecter's edition pic and replaced it with this. And the price dropped to $64.96.

This might be the 2nd or 3rd time they've switched the picture. I know CE picture was up last night. Not sure why they do it?

I don't think you have anything to worry about! As far as I can tell the art for the CE is official, so I don't anticipate it changing!

There's no specified amount that I know of for the CE

Is this Sony's first "big box" BD CE btw? I know Warner churns CE's out all the time, and Fox is close behind too, but I don't remember seeing any from Sony.
