The difference I think is that this is a review of a physical product, a blu ray. The movie's content, plot, character development, and historical importance are all sort of irrelevant. At the very least, they are much more subjective calls.

And as others have said, the number score is not all that important.

How does this compare to the UK version? Is the transfer the same? Are the extras the same? Does the US version also come with an outer sleeve?

I got the UK version when it came out. I'm just trying to decide if I should swap it for the US version.

And if it's acceptable to include "bonus material" as a rating category, I'd argue that a "content/story quality" category should then be added, for it is certainly more important than bonus content when judging the overall merits of a film.

At least then you wouldn't have a film like Brave get the same overall rating as a film like Lawrence of Arabia. That's still laughable, and the reason I made the Pixar reference.
Content and story are already covered, under the rating for the film itself.

We know what the extras are, & I'm just more curious of how long the 3rd disc is. Anyone have a run down of the runtimes? The promo trailer states over 3 hours of exclusive content, so I guess they're not phoning it in.

Just a heads-up: Deepdiscount.com has the CE for $49.99.

I like how classy the CE looks, but it's a bit too large for my tastes (and shelves). The outerbox seems oversized for the sparse contents inside. I kind of wish they did a Digibook edition as that would be quite an awesome cover to have on a digi

I would've been happy with a slipcover with that image.

(Who am I kidding... I'll be happy either way! Can't WAIT.)

I'm hoping the box set is shipped out from amazon already boxed and they put that box inside their shipping box much like they have down with the Pink Floyd Immersion box sets. I just hope they all arrive looking mint with no dents etc.

I know exactly what you mean, and have the same hope... Now seeing it comes with one of those Plasric Slips...

But deep down, I know it won't be the case... And it'll arrive damaged.

This has me biting my nails. When I ordered LOA I specifically added another (low-priced) item on my wish list and specified "In as few shipments as possible", in an attempt to ensure that they outer-boxed it. But then I jumped at the one-day Casablanca box set sale, and they shipped my cheapo item with that box instead!

Leaving poor old LOA to travel alone through the desert of standard two-day...

Just emailed Amazon for a PM, thanks!
Not really sure how much smaller they could make the box, unless they were to shrink the hardback book also!

Agreed, it looks too tall. The height wont work on my shelf. And that's a shame cause I wanted the extra content. They should have went with the Ben-Hur type ultimate box for this one.

Amazon would not price match this for me.
They did give me same day shipping instead of my 2-day Prime Shipping.
If someone gets a price match at amazon let me know.
