I had the superbit DVD a long time ago but never got around to watching it... and by the time I was, I kind of refused to watch anything less than HD so, now that the movie is finally out, I can indulge And you actually read my reviews? Thumbs up, man.

A quick question. I have never seen this movie but heard great things about this movie from my Uncle that a movie everyone must see.

So, I need to know about one thing since it has Arabs shown and the name suggests its about Arabia I just want to make sure its not an Anti Islamic or Anti Arab movie.

Can anyone please explain in detail the subject matter of this movie?

No it's far from an Anti Arab move....in fact Lawrence job was to bring the Arabs together.

Very far from anti-Arab or Anti-Islamic.
They are shown at the beginning of the movie to be divided in small tribes which tends to kill each other for honor and customs instead of being together and forming a greater nation, but this grows over the movie, they bound together overcoming their past issues and form this greater nation.

I do believe it is a very positive movie overall, which great friendships, honor and all.

It's been a while, but I don't recall it being anti-Arab or Anti-Islamic. I believe Lawrence helped Arabs against the Ottoman forces.. One Arab character in the movie questions Lawrence about why he calls him and others Arab ... I believe that character's position is that there were many tribes and not one monolithic group called "Arabs."

If you read the original book (by Lawrence), The Seven Pillars of Wisdom, there is a description of British activity in the area that presents a mixed picture of positive and negative influence.

Lawrence was his own man, and had a degree of contempt for the British Establishment and considerable empathy for the Arabs. I should quickly add that he was not free of flaws and the movie does show that.

Lawrence may have named his book based on Proverbs, 9:1 in the Old Testament: "Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars," without reference to the number of pillars of Islam. Some people have debated this, as well as the number of pillars, online.

The Wikipedia article seems O.K. to me, but I'm no expert.

Although I have not seen the movie in about 20 years, it left a lasting impression back then, as well as 50 years ago, when it overwhelmed me in 70 mm. We will play the Blu-ray all the way through just as soon as we re-balance the sound. Some of the opening music on the BD sounds a little shrill and harsh when it is played back as loudly as the I remember that the 70 mm played (with normal/plausible dialog levels). It will need a bit of upper mid-range cut and some bass boost. I expect to confirm my impression that it is one of the great films.
