If you schedule a print or digital presentation of Lawrence of Arabia for Louisville, I hope you will consider the excellent independent theater below.

Located in the heart of the Highlands neighborhood, Baxter Avenue Filmworks is far from a typical multiplex. The theater offers first-run, foreign, and independent fare. Baxter offers you a choice of eight wall to wall screen auditoriums with seating capacities from 147 to 237. Features include state-of-the-art projection equipment and Dolby Digital surround sound.

Baxter's most show-stopping asset, however, is its aesthetic allure including a multimedia video wall above the concession stand, lighted moving sculptures, and vintage posters throughout the facility. Hand-painted murals by local artists adorn walls in the concourse and each theater. Each mural celebrates a director that has made a valuable contribution to film.

Baxter Avenue Filmworks is now one of the only theatres in the state of Kentucky to use the Dolby System and quite possibly the only theatre to utilize specifically the Christie CP2000 SB projector which is used primarily in very large auditoriums with long throw distances that have multi-tiered balconies and 1,000s of seats. There is no doubt that patrons who see the digital and 3D films at Baxter will see the best quality image that is currently available in theatres.

Penton, would these new 70mm prints be from the 1988 restoration negative, or from the new digital job? I was able to see one of the new prints made in 2002 at DC's Uptown theater, which has long since dispensed with professional projectionists, removed the Cinerama screen, and gone 2k DLP. I suppose that the AFI Silver will have to do for this summer...

Joseph, you bring back fond memories , i.e. Uptown theater, from the time I lived in Wash., D.C. On more than one occasion, my girlfriend and I would visit the National Zoo, where we would walk around the exhibits for exercise prior to driving a tad further down the road to take in a flick at the Uptown .

While at the zoo, I often carried several apples and stopped at the Grizzly (Kodiak bear) abode where a bear by the name of ‘Kiska’ lived and this bear would stand on its hind legs, wave to me after which I’d throw a bright red apple (from probably about 50 ft. away) and she’d catch it in her mouth, RARELY ever missing and when she did, it was the fault of a poor toss by the 'pitcher' rather than the ‘catcher’. Anyway, quite an amazing bear and I think the zoo keepers never hassled me about feeding her because apples were indeed part of her diet.

But I digress.

Anyway, to answer your question directly, new 70mm. prints from the “new digital job”.

Hah , Kiska even made it onto the world wide web…

She’s walking alongside of the deep moat, as you can see the edge of the concrete descent on the bottom right of the linked photo.

Thanks for that bit of info; it should be interesting to compare with a digital screening of the same digital restoration. The 70mm print of the "old" restoration, on the Uptown's old Cinerama screen, was one of the most immersing cinema experiences that I've had. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the Celco CRT-based recorders the only digital film recorders that do 65mm?

Anyway, if Google is accurately translating the link written in Norwegian? that which was PMed to me, then the information is actually incorrect for, as of today, March 22, 2012, SPHE has not yet scheduled the final Norwegian release date for LoA on Blu-ray. I’m not really sure how an outside independent entity can confirm a street date for which the content provider itself hasn’t even made up its mind on yet.

I remember seeing this at the Uptown, I think around 1990, based on which friend I saw it with and when she moved out to the west coast. I remember this looking incredible.

recent AFI Silver 70mm presentations have looked great, but the Uptown had the upper hand in having a much larger 70 foot curved screen

The movie or the friend?

I remember this being advertised and really wanted to go see it...but being a poor college student I went to the Irish Times for 25¢ pitchers!

I recall hearing that there was another scene which they were unable to restore for the last restoration. Something about needing to find a better voice actor to dub in someone's lines.

Has anything like that been done, or is just the same as the previous remaster, except in better quality?

well if Sony would just announce the release date then there wouldn't be all this confusion right?
I mean it's only been a 6 year wait.
let's get this party started Sony before any more "fake" release dates get leaked.

I'm not convinced Sony announcing the release date would clear up any confusion.

Actually it 100% would clear up any release confusioin. Then all we would need would be the technical specs!

confusion isn't the word that comes to mind, vague is more appropriate.

Let's cut them some slack. After all, they haven't had much practice at announcing back catalog releases lately. It must be difficult for them.

Internet forums thrive on speculation, i.e. when is the Blu-ray movie coming out? What will the art look like? What will the extras be like? Exactly how much was sourced from the original negative, etc.

I wouldn’t want to deny peoples’ fun, prematurely.

so true, so true.
Like many others I'm very excited for the release, and I'm sure all will be revealed at the proper time.
