If it weren't for Prometheus, I wouldn't even had thought about learning about this masterpiece and eventually buying the blu.
So glad to hear that Prometheus is actually getting people interested in seeing it!

I picked up the single-disc regular Blu-ray for cheap at Best Buy on the spur of the moment when I bought my first HDTV and Blu-ray player recently.

I have never seen Lawrence of Arabia before, and I had always heard that it's a movie meant to be seen on a big screen for the first time. I do not have the opportunity at present to see it at a theater, so my 32'' 1080p LCD television will have to suffice.

I'm waiting until after the Christmas time hussle-and-bussle to see it, when I have a few hours to sit with the lights out in my living room and check out the movie uninterrupted. Probably next weekend.

Whoa. I can't help but think you're missing out on many, many great films if this is how you discovered David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia.
I personally think the small scene of David watching the film is the only good part of Prometheus! Not even in the right context! JUST the small clip of Lawrence of Arabia on its own is the good part!

The movie is definitely not anti-Arab or anti-Islamic in any way, but one thing which would probably not pass muster today is having non-Arab actors play Arab roles, such as Alec Guiness as Prince Feisal and Anthony Quinn as Auda Abu Tayi even though they look fantastic (very much like the real-life people) and the acting is superb. Omar Sharif is half arabic.

One could make the case that the movie is anti-Turkish, although it fairly represents the political positions of the Brits and Arabs at the time.

Good won!
I'm all for proper grammar/spelling, but I'm also cognizant of the fact that many people are posting via mobile devices 'on the run', and might have spell check enabled, etc. So I'll give a pass for a grammar/spelling slip here and there. I'll admit, the grammar police concept is becoming a little outdated. As long as the message gets across, I don't see the big deal.

+1...also, English is not everyone's first language (I'm french Canadian), so they will make mistakes. The grammar/spelling police can kiss my ass!

Default Blu Ray or DVD problems

Has anyone noticed the following technical problem(s) that Anonymous on the Barnes and Noble website, that for a short time (no longer) offered the absolutely bottom-dollar price for this anniversary edition:
"Unfortunately, Columbia (after promising they would remove it) has left in all the edge enhancement that was present on the previous DVD transfers. Fine details shimmer excessively in certain scenes. Much of the latter half of the film is plagued by halo effects and a considerable amount of pixelization. These effects are terribly distracting. Despite Superbit's claim to offer the best picture quality available to the home consumer - this disc simply does not hold up!"

There's a single word in here that answers your question... Superbit. They were complaining about an old dvd release.

Yes, both the original DVD release and the Superbit were disappointing. At the time, I still preferred Criterion's laserdisc. The Blu-ray transfer is astonishing. I only wish I had a bigger TV screen.

And speaking of sub-par English usage...there are a couple of howlers in the English subtitles. The one that had me on the floor was in the "nasty, dark" room scene in Cairo. When Lawrence tells Hartley "Then you're an ignoble fellow", the subtitles say, "Then you're a big, noble fellow".

I just finished watching Lawrence of Arabia for the very first time.

Yes, I waited until I had a Blu-ray player and a 1080p HDTV before experiencing this movie, and I am glad that I waited. Even on my 32'' screen, this movie is awesome in the format. When I bought a Blu-ray player, I picked this Blu-ray up on the spur of the moment at Best Buy, because I had read glowing reviews of the new release. All true.

I'll be revisiting this one over and over again, mostly for the vast desert shots in the first half of the movie. I'm not big on the idea of "demo discs", but this one certainly qualifies.

I had to order one at this price. In-store pickup tomorrow, and then some solid couch time.

BTW, here's a fascinating article on the work that went into the restoration of the original 70mm print back in the 80's...
