Just bought the collector's edition, and absolutely love it. Great book, nice set overall, and a great film cell (which I'd post a picture of, but it'd be way too blurry since I can't find my actual camera).

I picked a copy today.
For that price I couldn't pass it up.
The quality of this collector's edition is Absolutely Superb.
My favorite addition is the 70mm frame print included.
What other blu-ray special editions have done that, any at all?

Off the top of my head, the Transformers series SE. Not many US BD's get film cells, for whatever reason.
I know the UK SE of the Indiana Jones series has a film cell. Ditto the JP version of The Amazing Spiderman.

Also picked up a copy from Fry's today. Got a $25 Fry's gift card for Christmas, so something like $12.89 out of my pocket for the Collectors Edition...very happy! And I also love the addition of the film print, looks amazing.

This is a very long thread and I don't want to read through it so sorry about asking. What is wrong with the regular version of this movie? Amazon.com wont let me order it.

More often than not that just means they've gotten an unusual number of returns for some reason or another. In this case it could just be that people cancelled orders or initiated returns after seeing a great price on the Collector's Edition.

It will likely be available soon and there's no reason not to buy it somewhere else if you see a good price.

I received the collectors edition of Lawrence of Arabia for Christmas and I've been absolutely impressed by the picture quality in terms of detail and the sound of the film. However I seem to be having an issue with my disc which im not sure if source related, encode related or just a bad disk. Mainly through the first half, it becomes apparent through many of the scenes, particularly desert scenes, that are a number of thick faint lines flickering across the scenes. I put this down originally to my tv but found the same anomaly on another TV recently. Is this a source-related issue due to filming in the desert and has anyone else experienced this issue?

Just received this via Netflix BD rental and looking forward to watching this again. I don't think I've seen it since the laserdisc(maybe TCM?). Hopefully I can get my wife to sit down and watch it. Her only memory is trying to watching it letterboxed on a small tv back in the day. So it wasn't a good memory. Such a great movie and want to turn that experience to a more positive direction.

I'm eating a big portion of humble pie today with a side of caveat emptor.

I bought the two-disc edition. "It'll be fine," I thought. "All I care about is the movie, really."

Then I read about the deleted balcony scene. About the fact that, had it been included in the film, it would've fundamentally changed it as a whole. About the brilliant writing. About the fact that it'd been restored and would be included as an extra.

I finally got around to popping in disc 2, thinking the balcony scene had to be there; it's almost certainly the most important special feature accompanying this release, and it'd doubtless make the cut to be included in the smaller "shelf-friendly" version.

Well, shit.

Can someone explain the logic of this to me? I mean, beyond the "create incentive for people to purchase the more expensive version"?

Having bought hundreds of blu-rays and over a thousand DVDs over the years, I felt completely confident that (a) any deleted scene, (b) such an important deleted scene, and (c) such an important deleted scene in one of the most important movies ever made...well...I figured they'd, ahem, "find room" for it on disc 2. They managed to find room for several other things.

But noooooooooo.

The question is, How badly do I want to see it? Enough to rebuy?

Haha! I feel your pain.

I think you've already answered your own question with this:

"in one of the most important movies ever made"

Any movie receiving such lofty praise, it should be a no-brainer to get the permium vs. the regular. That's how I look at it.
Oddly enough you don't hear many of the folks that bought said premium edition complaining that much!
Just an observation.

I didn't actually think the expanded balcony scene added that much to the story. Part of that scene is actually in the movie. It certainly didn't change the thrust of the film, especially for me. And I think the complete version of that scene slows the pacing down a bit. I think the expanded version of that scene does more for the Allenby character than it does for Lawrence.

So personally, I wouldn't buy the big box just to get that scene. I guarantee you that you'll watch that scene just once, then never again and I wouldn't be surprised if you can find it on YouTube. But if you want the book and the 70mm frame, then it is worth buying the big box.

A video of it can be seen here: http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2012/..._of_balcon.php

If it helps, the balcony scene is in SD and the intro looks like it was recorded 20+ years ago.

Man, what a beautiful movie on BD. Usually, I kind of roll my eyes when people gush over something that is on BD, but this one definitely shows a great representation of blu to me. Really enjoyed the movie and will have to find a great deal before I commit to picking it up.

I bought the Collector's Edition and it was really worth it. I can say that it is my most priced collection. The BD was stunning.
