Pretty poor picture, but hey, we use phones to take pictures these days....lol. But seriously, the amount of detail in the actual frame is pretty awesome.

Nice. I assume that every CE have a unique frame or is it mass produced reproductions of the cells packed randomly?

The compositions are lovely, just like a painting. So happy with my frame, and the ones posted here are beautiful too.

I'm told these are hand-cut and hand-selected frames from a 70mm print. Just to make sure you don't get a shot of someone's shoe or a wheel, etc.

How do I go about doing that Cine? Is the frame shown on the outside of the packaging? Guess I need to pay attention the next time I look at this set.

No, he's saying Sony hand selected the frames to ensure no one gets a really crappy one.

I got the standard 2-disc version yesterday at Best Buy for $4.99 + DVD trade-in. At that price, I can do without a slip or a fancy box.
Can't wait to get the time to kick back and enjoy this!

How'd you do that? I got it for $12.99 with U&S coupon (it's normally $17.99)

I found one lonely copy in the $9.99 section and searched everywhere else to see where it belonged but couldn't find it. I took it to customer service along with a Best Buy version of Get The Gringo ($19.99). I told the lady that I wuz not sure about Lawrence and how I searched for it, but that that they'd had these classics on sale and she said she'd take care of it. Then she rang up Gringo at full price so I showed her the Sunday ad and told her about the "Now $9.99" sign on the rack (also an only copy), so she marked it down as well (online, BB says the "regular" version is "not in stores", so whoever put Gringo in the U&S ad screwed up ).

Anyway, after a reward coupon and a credit, I walked out with the two of them for free (more-or-less). I had a bad bike crash last Sunday and I'm still pretty wiped out and look kinda pathetic, so maybe she felt sorry for me.

Well, whatever works. Hey it's a good deal and you've added to your blu collection and that's all that matters, right? lol

I've never watched this film, though I've been curious for some time. Right now I have the standard edition in my cart, and that's probably enough for me given it's a blind buy and I'm not terribly interested in the clutter the book and frame would bring (as nice as they might be). The soundtrack is interesting but someone mentioned in this thread that there was a better version of the soundtrack that could be sought out.

In any case, I guess the only real pull for me is this supposed extended balcony scene, but I'm not sure I care enough about a film I haven't even seen to justify spending $30 more for a few minutes of extra film that may or may not be all that eye-opening.

I may try to watch some of this film tonight before I purchase just to see how much I really care.

The CE doesn't have any extended version included as far as I know.

Right. Both BRDC & Amazo list the same 227 min for each "restored" 50th Anniversary edition. IMDb, however, is all over the place - listing : 187 min (1970 re-release), 210 min, 216 min, 222 min, 227 min - and a director's cut of 228 min (maybe that's got the "extended balcony scene" Taikero is referring to)! Not sure how many of those were ever released for home viewing or in which formats, but the DC seems to be history.

228 minutes was the original length at the film's premiere. However, I don't believe it was ever released theatrically at that length. When it went to theaters distributors chopped it down so they could get more viewings in, resulting in the myriad of different cuts that the film has had over the years. When it was restored, they were attempting to restore the full film as it premiered. However, IIRC, they were unable to find a full cut of the balcony scene. That as well as the need to rerecord much of the film's dialogue despite the fact that at least one of the actors had passed away, resulted in the 227 minute length.
