I'm hoping the big box will eventually hit 65% off, like Casablanca did, which would price it around $35. I'm a fan, but not an obsessive one, so $45 is just too much for me for one movie, albeit a 4-hour one with lots of extras and a hardcover book.

That said, do you think I paid too much? I've taken a lot of your opinion to heart over the time that I've spent on here, and am glad we share a lot of the same interests in film...so truly be honest with me NoirFan. Should I have held off? That and now I'm wondering if Prime members get free shipping on returned items if that is the case? I had to pay to ship back a damaged Hitchcock set to the UK and wow was that hardly worth other than the gigantic crack across the case that I knew would've bugged the heck outta me. Thanks for you feedback!!!

Well, thanks for the kind words! I don't think you paid too much, if you're a big fan of the film. 53% off is still a good discount. It looks like a pretty stacked set, and the transfer is apparently gorgeous. Who knows if it will dip lower anyway, the Casablanca set was a Deal of the Day, if I recall.

You should never have to pay for return shipping if an item is damaged. That's really lame that Amazon UK charged you for return shipping, I'd seriously complain to a supervisor about that. I've received a few damaged sets from Amazon UK, and in each case they told me to just keep (or throw away) the damaged one, and promptly sent me my replacement.

Thanks I will try and contact them, it was around the beginning of December of last year so hopefully they'll refund the charges, time will tell. Thanks!

That and with the Lawerence set...I've had my eye on it for quite some time, looked at the reviews and caved. It is the lowest I've seen even compared to what Importcd's had it going for unfortunately otherwise they would've had my business. So yeah, I'll probably hang on to it then...thank you for the feedback!

I don't deal with Amazo UK, but I've never paid for return shipping on damaged goods on Amazo US or anywhere. That's BS.

Agree'd. I can't bring myself to pay that much for one movie even with all the great extra's. If it gets to around $35 or lower I'll buy immediately.

The distributors would have no motive to cut down the 70 mm version to get more viewings in, because the maximum number of viewings was two per day, one in the afternoon and one at night, as was typical of 70 mm roadshows at the time. I'm not aware of 70 mm prints of Lawrence being displayed in continuous showings in later years. When it came time to make 35 mm prints, I can't imagine them re-cutting the negative. I'm guessing they made intermediate printing versions in which certain shots/scenes were skipped. So, to the degree the negative was properly stored, a complete negative should have been available to the BD people.

Never seen this..but I have a question

does this movie have replay value? most of my friends say its boring as hell. Just how boring is it?

I really want to pick it up though. I love its soundtrack and the way it looks.

It's 4 1/2 hours. And made in 1962. If you care about film, you'll love it. If you're a delinquent yo won't.

Well ... are your friends easily bored? 'Cause if they/you only like "pounding action" you can watch over and over again - you know, ADHD flicks ... ... It's not the kind of movie you're gonna wanna whip on again next week, but it is the kinda movie that you'll watch again down the road - and more than once. And/or ... what The Rainmaker said.

Because you love the soundtrack, there is hope. If you love great photography, there is hope. If you have any interest in the Middle East turmoil of today, it may be interesting to look back at the times of Lawrence. If you like to speculate about multiple motivations, you will have an opportunity to do so.

I'd say Lawrence is not a film to talk or munch popcorn during. One could hear the proverbial pin drop during most of the 70 mm showings, as people drank in the silence, or the grandeur, of the desert.

"Boring" is a term most of my film friends and I would like to ban from reviews, professional or amateur. Some of my favorite films have been called boring by a few. I, on the other hand, find some action films involving transformers or super heroes, uh, ... not very stimulating ... and not very much fun to contemplate, or discuss in what Hitchcock called "refrigerator talk."

I watched this film for the first time at the beginning of the week, and I absolutely loved it. As has already been said here - Great acting, great photography/cinematography... the story is superb and acts as both an interesting story as well as character study. Glad I picked this up, and I'll try to watch it again sometime in the near future.

Step 1: Get the movie.

Step 2: Get new friends.

"Boring" is about the last word I would ever associate with Lawrence of Arabia.

Does it have replay value? Hell, yes! I saw the 1989 restoration twice in a theater, and watched it numerous times on laserdisc (still have the LD). I've watched both DVD releases (the Collector's Edition and the SuperBit Edition) several times each. I saw the 4K restoration in the theater, and have watched the Blu-ray twice (once for the regular 2-disc edition, and again when I replaced that with the Collector's Edition). I'd probably have watched it several more times if I didn't have too many other things to watch.

Great , I like films that look pretty. And of course I love great scores ...its good to know what I am getting into though because thyat 4 hour length IS scary.

Thats what I was wondering- whether the story is interesting or not. Sometimes even good stories (No COunrty for old men) , puts me to fukcing sleep.

And zahinn, next time you ask for opinions and folks are nice enough to take their time to help you by answering, try not to side with someone criticizing them for it. You asked for opinions, you got 'em. Nobody criticized anyone's opinion -"it would seem :/" - especially yours!
