Weird that the CE never came with a slipcover for the Blu. Great set though, and $10 for the 'normal' release is still very good value.

Check six & seven posts down (or up, depending on your point of view).

As best as I can tell, there's only 2 BD versions, right? The one in the picture that I was wrong about not having a slip and the great big 50th Anniversary Limited Collector's Edition which has a huge slip.

Well, keep in mind that the disc case in the CE is fatter, in order to accomodate two extra discs. Sony probably thought it was pointless to manufacture two different sized slipcovers, especially since the CE came in a ginormous box.

You are correct. The regular edition has two discs (Disc 1 being the movie and some extras, Disc Two being more extras), and the CE edition has in addition to what's in the regular edition -- and aside from various non-video collectible items -- a Disc Three, which is yet more extras, and a CD of the soundtrack.

For PQ, the best of all possible Home Theater worlds. I'm not sure they did as good a job as possible on the sound, though.

Agreed. They will go on the shelf right next to my four versions of Ben-Hur (VHS-HiFi, DVD, DVD from 65mm negative, Blue-ray).

At least, they will probably stop with 8K, since that is pretty close to the resolution of a 65 mm negative (for Super Panavision 70). We should be glad that Harris scanned the negative of Lawrence at 8K, even though we can't see 8K with our feeble Blu-ray disks. By the time it's out on 8K, people will have (front projection) screens that take up 60 to 100 degrees of the arc of vision, like the oldest screens in 70 mm theaters ... for that, we'll need 8K. If we forecast that the arrival of 8K projection for the home will occur in about 2020, it will have only taken 65 years for home exhibition to catch up with the best theatrical projection of 1955 (Todd-AO)!

Just in time my local BB got a couple in! Not only did I get LOA for $5, by picking up a third BD, I apparently scored 500 RZ points!

Hah, well, if you want to phrase it like that . The actual Blu case inside doesn't have one though, although as jayembee posted maybe it's because the extra disc included makes it thicker.

Yeah, but I've never seen a slip on an internal disc - which doesn't mean There haven't been ... hundreds. I just haven't seen any.

GMAFB. This film has direction, acting and historical significance that LotR can't touch. Few films can.

So I had some free time this weekend and I watched LoA(again) as well as ALL the extras from the Collector's Edition straight through, in one sitting.

Here's my biggest problem with this LoA Collector's Edition:

The film is so good, that it kind of spoils other films. It's almost like you have to go to some LoA detox center so you can, somewhat, enjoy other movies again. Then you've got the extensive assortment of extras, that are a treat in themselves. THEN to top it all off, you have the great packaging that includes the wonderful book and film cell.

So thank you: Columbia Pictures, Sony, & Sony Colorworks for, basically, ruining about 85% of my BD collection.

I definitely agree rick. It is a beautifully shot movie. Before this one Bladerunner was my goto for something that just looks beautiful on BD. I still haven't tracked down the deluxe CE, but I'm almost tempted just to get the one that is around $10. This, like Spartacus and The Searchers have always been one of my favorite classic movies to watch. Bridge over the River Kwai used to be on that list, then I watched a documentary on the real BotRK and hope that the surviving vets eventually get the true story out.

Rick, how can you post if you're suspended? I don't know how that works, but it's only been 38 minutes since your post - so, unless you got suspended in the last half hour ...? I don't mean to be mean or nosey, just puzzled. PM me if that's better and if you want to (and if you can). If not, hope you're back soon.

Yes, all I had was the single disc DVD for years while waiting for the Blu-ray. I did see it at The Senator a couple times in 70mm back in '89 and again in '02. To have it now in all its glory was worth the wait.

Suspended!?

Well, whatever it was that got rick suspended apparently the mod's got rid of it. I don't understand why they just don't leave the post that lead to the suspension? Oh well, been there myself without little of a explanation and hope it isn't permanent.

Also great point Rick. One of the reasons I hold out on things people RAVE about is this.
1) I have something great to look forward to +++
2) Eveything else loses cred (in a way )---
