The only issue I have with the 'Mi4K' release and I presume the standard release features this as well, is the colour timing irregularity. This issue also annoys me in the transfer of Star Wars, specifically in the desert scenes. I like to see a constant colour timing.

So, you have the JP Mi4k of LoA? How is the compression on it?

I agree with you on the colour timing, of course.

I do own it but I haven't owned the standard release, although considering the higher bitrate, any compression artifacts will be less.

Regarding banding, I think I remember seeing some (specifically on fade outs/ins), but the Kuro is getting on a bit now and they do have a lower colour precision than newer display's, but we all know that Blu-ray only having 8-bit of colour depth doesn't help.

Maybe I missed it, but comparison shots. There are some slight color differences in general between two releases.

Seems the mi4K release is a bit more saturated with very slightly different tint. However, we know Robert Harris was behind the original release so maybe it's more accurate in that sense.

It would be interesting to hear his thoughts on the two releases.

I am almost tempted to get another Ultimate Collector's Edition for a chance of a better frame, but I already have this, the regular release, and the Mi4k JP edition, so I think I should refrain from this madness.

I asked him specifically about the JPN Mi4K version a while ago, he said it looked like "an original negative print".

What's this? The US remaster isn't the best edition anymore...?

I nearly soiled myself when I saw this going for $29.99. I already owned the 2-disc, but this is one film where any extra is worth owning.

I can't wait to see this glorious book, as well.

The standard and collector's edition releases are still the overall best packages with good PQ and bonus features. While the Japanese Mi4K release has slightly better PQ, it also comes at the expense of having the film spread over two discs and no bonus features.

The "best" edition isn't even on Blu-ray. It's in native 4K via the Sony Unlimited download site. I think it's likely that it'll be released on UHD BD in the next year or two (and likely will look even better than the download). Any high profile Blu-ray new release and catalog I am putting the brakes on since they will be coming out on UHD BD at some point.

I really hope Sony intends to take the opportunity to show the other distributors how it's done by including some actual 4K-sourced material like this in their UHD launch slate.

That transfer is what's on the JP release. Unfortunately, as stated above, it is spread across two discs and has no extras.

Except of course that the Japanese version is 1080p, not 2160p like the Sony download is (which doesn't have any extras either).

Right. I thought about importing it, but the difference in the U.S. transfer is marginal at best. I'll gladly buy a UHD/BD combo though.

Me too (although I already own* the 4K download version, I gotta have the latest and greatest of this one. )

*= well I own it until Sony says I don't and yanks it from their server or my FMP-X10 dies.

To watch Lawrence Of Arabia in 4k UHD Blu ray would be breathtaking
