Wasn't going to go through this whole thread to find out but just wanted to let you guys know that the UHD streams on Vudu currently are actually REC2020 (P3 primaries) and not REC709. Just FYI if you want to watch some 4K content with a wider gamut. Dolby Vision not required.

Watching mad max uhd with 10 bit color (and 10 bit selected on my roku).
Picture looks excellent. Colors are great! Picture is a little soft compared to blu ray, so I cranked up sharpness on my tv. It looks corrected now. Black levels are also top notch, no grain or anything. Further supports my hate for 4k netflix, 4k netflix is borderline fraudulent compared to vudu uhd and amazon uhd. |

UHD codes? ![]() And it looks like Warner is remixing *everything* UHD into Atmos if the specs are correct. Anyone that can confirm? |

Does VUDU allow to watch that 2-min preview of each movie in UHD as well? |

I just got the 65" Samsung UN65JU7500FXZA on Sunday. I have a Roku 4 and had purchased Man of Steel UHD from Vudu to test it out. It plays in UHD on the Roku 4. However, if I load the Vudu app directly from the tv, Man of Steel does not play in UHD. I went to playback quality and HDX was the highest resolution listed.

Make sure u select 10 bit on the Roku in settings. And yes, the internal VUDU app does not do 4k currently. Vudu had a deal with Roku for exclusivity for 4k. Alot of people not happy that in order to get vudu 4k u need to purchase a $130 external device. |

I've read some of these units have an 8 bit panel. |

some people those have had issues selecting 10 bit on the roku, but supposedly the problem has been fixed. and yes u want to select 10 bit because vudu movies are 10 bit, so if you have the roku set to 8 bit it will downscale to 8 bit and wont look as good. |

I selected 10 bit with no issues. While streaming Man of Steel UHD, there's an occasional fairly large green square flicker on the right side. I'm hoping it's the HDMI cable or just a crappy stream from Vudu. This is the only thing issue I've seen since getting the tv. Everything else looks terrific.

I am curious about the audio on the Dolby Vision Vizio Reference sets. It is my understanding that the Vudu app has DD+ Atmos encoded tracks. How do they get sent over ARC, which is supposedly limited to S/PDIF and doesn't support DD+?

Atmos won't work under those circumstances. You'd have to feed the Roku into a AV processor or receiver that does Atmos and then the video to the display. In the case of the internal app for the Vizio Reference, I am not sure what limitations its HDMI output has on audio.

Vizio says it's new UHD Reference sets with Dolby Vision will output Dolby Atmos tracks without a Roku 4:

Yamaha has a new sound bar that will do Dolby Atmos - Yamaha YSP-5600. My ideal situation is to run HDMI out from TV to HDMI in to sound bar. Problem is TVs do not have HDMI out and HDMI ARC to my knowledge will not carry the Dolby Atmos. LG OLED can handle the Dolby Vision HDR. It drives me nuts everyone wants you to have a set top box to do this stuff when the TV has the capability to do it without a box! |

I haven't seen anything to indicate the Vizio sets have an HDMI output beyond the ARC connection. Hence my question.
EDIT: the online tech specs for both of the soon to be released Vizio Dolby Vision Reference sets show two audio outputs - analog and digital S/PDIF. No user manuals are posted yet. Last edited by BIslander; 01-05-2016 at 09:31 PM. |

^ UPDATE: I emailed Vizio support to ask whether the new sets can output Dolby Atmos on their own and they said No:
