Poor Vincent. On this forum he is accused of being an LG shill, and now over on AVS he is being called a Samsung shill.

Lol. You really can’t win can you? Damned if you, damned if you don’t. I think for the most part folks appreciate what he does on AVS. Besides this Sammysung guy I’ve only seen one other member have a beef with him.

Vincent's dry sense of humor and his delivery are spot on and greatly appreciated by a cynical old bastard such as myself, lol.

If this is the same for the Xbox Series X, I think I may go out and get a new receiver. I have been waiting for a fix for the HDMI 2.1 chip issues on last year's receivers (which I'm assuming would be fixed this year for 2021 receivers) but if these consoles can't even output at 4K at 120 Hz properly, then what is the point? Unless if VRR works at 60 Hz as well.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10th we'll have our calibrator, John and Youtube celebrity, Shane of the SpareChange channel to produce the live webcast of us testing and discussing Sony's A90J 2021 Master Series OLED TV performance.

What did you expect? These consoles are equivalent to entry level PC hardware from 3 years ago.

If you want to play at 120fps without sacrificing visual fidelity, you have to pony up for a high end PC, and depending on the title, even then it's not a given.

I agree with you on the expectation front. If consoles last gen were pushing 1080p at 30 FPS, pulling off native 4K at 60 FPS is about as good as it's going to get this generation. I wouldn't say you'd be finding terabyte M.2 drives and ray tracing GPUs in entry level PCs 3 years ago though.

Turing cards came out in 2018, and in fact, the consoles perform about on par with a RTX 2060 in ray tracing games.

Even native 4K60 is too much for these consoles, especially when ray tracing is involved. The only way you're getting 4K60 is if it's a non demanding title or if you're using upscaling, dynamic resolution scaling, using a combination of low-medium graphics settings, or a mixture of all of the aforementioned.

I'm with you. I was thinking about the RTX 2060 too which was an entry level ray-tracing capable GPU, but that was in 2019. I was just saying that in 2018 it would've been hard to match the technologies in these consoles for entry level price (although we may have different takes on that price range).

I think for the most part some technology will have to be compromised (in a "pick two" situation). If you want 4K with ray tracing, you'll likely have to sacrifice 60 FPS, and likewise for prioritizing any other two of the three. Some games are pulling off impressive moves though, and I'm excited to see how console game developers optimize their games for this generation as time passes.

The 2060 came out in 2018.

What I find most comical about the consoles is that even in games that support ray tracing, they barely support the feature. RT reflections will be upscaled to 1080p from 540p, and many RT features are left out entirely. Yet, the consoles still struggle to run these games, even with all of these compromises.
