Yes, I watched YouTube. A new chip 2020rec. colors DCIP3 is gamut and more more powerful.

It doesn't belong in the list since the DI is only 2K rather than 4K.

If you are classifying The Martian's 4k rebuild as a 4k master, then I would argue that you should also add Exodus: Gods and Kings. The way I read the Fox exec's tweet is that it first starts with a blanket statement about all the Fox UHD BD's, then he goes on to detail the process using The Martian as an example. Exodus, a Fox film, was also shot at 5k, but has 2k effects.

The 4K Ultra HD Discs have encoded picture in 4K resolution with High Dynamic Range. The High Dynamic Range grade is created in the 4K domain, and uses raw camera assets...

For THE MARTIAN, we started with 2K assets up-converted to 4K and Red Dragon Camera raw assets (5K resolution). From there we then created a High Dynamic Range Grade in 4K. The grading exercise involves the movie's coloris making various adjustments (frame by frame, with adjustments made to different areas within a frame) in 4K to finish the picture.

I hope you're right, but I think we should wait for specific confirmation (most likely hands-on at this point). The list should not include 2K DI movies "assumed" to be coming out with native 4K content.

The statement was made in a series of tweets about a specific movie (The Martian), the tweet only mentioned that Ultra HD Blu-ray movies would be encoded at 4K resolution, and he considers upconverted 2K to be 4K. I think that the studios are eager to talk about the movies that they redo in 4K but will remain very silent on the movies that they upscale. If Fox was really going to redo all of their Ultra HD Blu-ray movies in 4K they would be crystal clear about it and would be boasting about it to every blog/website that asked.

Are that many people actually asking though? I get the impression that tech bloggers are sitting there doling out "harrumphs" by the bucketload instead of using their 'contacts' to actually find out how the studios are approaching these 2K to 4K releases.

Maybe because the first movie didn't do well as expected and the budget was reduced for 2K production only.

This one was finished in 2K for 3D in non-US markets. The first was not in 3D.

Agreed. Has anyone noticed that most (all?) of the studios are members of the UHD Alliance but none of the titles announced so far have a Ultra HD Premium sticker on them?

Content Master (UHD Alliance Content producers must meet the following standards)

• Minimum image resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels
• Color Bit Depth: 10-bit signal minimum
• Color: BT.2020 color representation
• High Dynamic Range: SMPTE ST2084 EOTF
