At least in the live action scenes.
I dunno. Ridley likes the 'scope ratio but doesn't like anamorphic, he hasn't gone near it in years (was Matchstick Men the last time?) and when he did he kinda endeavoured to make it look as 'normal' as possible rather than playing up to the format's idiosyncracies. And, as your last comment re: BR alludes to, the VFX was shot flat and has spherical lens flare etc and yet it cuts so well (IMO) with the anamorphic main-unit footage exactly because Scott is constantly fighting against the traditional streaking, flares, elliptical bokeh and so on.

Plus Deakins can open up the frame for IMAX

Most people shoot flat so that they can use faster optics and have more leeway for reframing in post but sure, IMAX, whatever.

I'm pretty sure it will be from the new master. Wasn't the the JP disc part of the "mastered in 4k" line of discs? The old master is probably not in 4k.

We will see. If that's the case then I will just sell my JP disc. There's also the point that the JP disc is barebones giving the film a presumably high bitrate than this upcoming release. I would assume that the BD-50 for this UHD release is going to be loaded with extras, which will lower the bitrate. That's correct. Yes, the first Sony BD was a much older 2K scan complete with chunky grain and washed out colors.

I dunno about the BD disc. If this isn't getting a standalone BD remaster then I'd caution against expecting such a thing to be packed in with the 4K disc.

Yeah, if it's the same old BD we got in 2009 then I will just put the JP BD in with the UHD disc.

Both were restored in 4K from original 35mm negatives.

I heard its fake and worse quality than the standard blu ray. The only reason it came out is because in Germany a different company has the rights to Iron Man, so they made a bad upscaled transfer and put it out as 4k.
