blu-ray.com listed BlacKkKlansman 4K as native 4K and i think it's not on the list...

Was LIFE 4K added by mistake as a 4K or higher master?

"The 2160p/HDR-enhanced image offers a serious uptick in clarity and color to be sure and, at times, detail, even as the movie was reportedly finished at 2K but photographed at higher resolutions. "

3.2K finished. We discussed and decided to add this title on the list. Also some production companies accept the camera resolution within the required UHD specs.

You can do whatever you want with your discs. Once you attempt to share or sell things begin to change.

Does anybody know what's up with 2001? Was supposed to be out next Tuesday, now Amazon says "we'll let you know when it's available."

New official US release date is 18th December. This is due to pressing plants closing, leading to a bottleneck situation for production. Many labels and titles are affected.

Annihilation doesn't show even an ounce more detail than the blu-ray. Now the colors are way better and all so the HDR and wide gamut do a ton for this particular one, but it seems more than dubious to put it as a 4k or higher master, unlike some 2k DI this one doesn't even seem to show even a trace more detail.

We still live in a theatrical world where many movies are finished in 2k.

8k displays may end up with higher frame rates for sports and be closer in capability to the Rec 2020 color space than what was promised for 4k displays only as a means to try and get you to upgrade yet again with little to no true 8k content... an uphill battle. You will also need a MUCH larger display to see any difference anyway and so few households would be itching to do that.

I also don't see a physical medium being adopted for it either. 4k discs may be it.
you don't need a much larger display for 8k to matter at all
heck even on a small 19" print it's easy to see if it came from an 8MP camera vs a 32MP camera is easily noticeable

and remember all the talk about how oh goodness 1080P is so absurd you'd need like a 10' screen for it to look better than SD and yet even on a 24" monitor you can see a HUGE improvement SD vs HD and a HUGE imrpovement HD to UHD

now the way many movies were shot you probably won't notice much if anything from 4k->8k for many already shot, but it depends, it could definitely be noticeable for a few

streaming doesn't even have blu-ray bandwidth, hard to see 8k streaming being the way to go for that first

Theres issues at production factories that have affected many releases. Nothing to do with the actual title.

Why isn't Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness" on this list? I thought it was getting the same treatment as Escape From New York, The Fog, and They Live. https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/...-restorations/

Not sure why others in this thread may have not jumped on the pre-order back on July 16th . . . but mine was delivered Oct 30th - at a reduced net cost of $20.52 using my Amazon 5% off Visa. I see today's price at $37.19 and back on another pre-order status at a higher price.

For me, I am going to pay more attention to this thread and grab pre-order deals at the slightest hint of availability. 2001 was the first tip off I read here that led me to jump on the Amazon site to lock in my order. Glad I did.

My wife and I went to the theatre in 2015 when Mr Holmes came out. The picture came across as dark instead of bright . . . and then when I got my 65" LG Oled . . . the standard Blu-ray version was 10 times more pleasant to watch than sitting in a theatre and watching their 2K version.
