That was my concern - the CGI looked poor enough in 2K I can't imagine why they tried to finish this in 4K, but props for the effort I suppose.

As far as the martian - thats an upscale not true 4K, ill throw it in the round with Maze Runner that had 4K CGI but 2.8K camera.

Although none of the Lionsgate movies are ones that I would pickup its nice to see another studio is supporting the format and with mostly 4K mastered titles.

Also glad to see this thread got stickied!

Yes, but that 2K DI wasn't HDR.

A new transfer is made for the UHD version.

Ok, but wasn't it shot on a 2.8K camera? I understand they would run it thru the HDR process for the colorist, but is it not still going to be a 2K DI? Everything I have seen shot with a 2.8K camera is a 2K DI.

Mazerunner 1 was shot with 2.8k and finished with a 4k di.

The 2k di is so overrated. The mad max blu ray looks excellent and will transfer to 4k no problem. People will be raving about how awesome it looks in 4k hdr. I'll bet anything on iit. It'll be a non issue once people get their hands on this stuff.

Great list to have HD G
Now it comes to light how pathetic the studios have been in making 4K Di's

You mean underrated, if I follow your story? The Maze Runner also used the Red Epic (5K) camera.

Thanks. Isn't Spectre the same way? Shot lower than 4k but finished in 4K or something?

Anyways, the Mad Max Blu-ray was pristine!

Hmm. Fury Road was shot on Alexa and has an absolute ton of digital 2K-res tomfoolery on it anyway, even on a new 'transfer' of that material there won't be a great deal of stuff at the 2.8K native res of the capture, never mind 4K. Should still look better mind you, especially if they can get rid of the slight banding visible on the Blu.

Don't know about that but really liked Sicario much better than I thought I would. For me, many Lionsgate titles are handheld B grade junk.

IMO, Deakins is one of the best working DP's there is (and I am unanimous in that )

Sicario had some of the best gun shot sound FX that I have heard. Have a 7.2.4 setup but no Atmos/DTS:X processor yet so I will be interested to hear what others say about the Atmos mix.

This could be my first UHD BD title purchase .
