It's kinda easier to do it for this sort of movie. They tend to have few, if any CGI effects and don't have to worry about cost of rendering 4x as much info so costs to do non-big FX CGI stuff in 4k isn't much above 2k at all.

and comments that it doesn't look much more detailed than the blu-ray (granted the Canon 1DX is kind of a soft 4k, not nearly as crisp as the Sony or high end gear, but should still look better than blu-ray, quite clearly)

As for the Star Wars films, The Original Trilogy is native 4K, scanned from the negative just with the Special edition changes/additions inserted. The Force Awakens is only a 2K DI despite assumption from some that it's native, the IMAX scene might be native but that's all (theatrical DCP was 2K). The Prequels aren't native either as expected.

I don't see why they would upscale a docu. Other docu's on Disney+ are not upscaled as well. Free Solo was shot in 4K for those big IMAX screens in mind.

For now I have no reason to doubt. Haven't seen this docu with my own eyes, did you?

A DCP isn't a final confirm on how a movie was finished. Examples of enough of 4K mastered movies with a 2K DCP.

I saw a post suggesting that The Force Awakens is a 4K DI but didn't get a 4K DCP outside of IMAX due to them rushing. Is there any way of confirming that it's actually Native 4K aside from IMDB?

Dolby Cinema was also 4K

IMAX uprez all their DCPs to 4K anyway for the oversampling so that doesn't necessarily mean something in itself re: TFA.

I think Jet Li's 'Hero' (2002) would greatly benefit from a 4k release. One of the most beautifully photographed movies.
