What exactly is the purpose of this thread? I don't really see the value of just knowing whether something had a 4K master or not when there are so many more factors that determine picture quality. I could upscale a DVD and finish it on a 4K DI and by the definition of this list it would qualify.

So there really aren't that many real 4k masters out there.. most are upscaled?

Most of the catalog titles coming from film stock where the studio could (and did) go back and rescan the negatives in 4k or higher are true 4k on 4k disc. If they had theatrical DI's (Digital Intermediates) then it's possible many came from 2k resolution files as that is still the norm for Hollywood. They're cheaper to produce. Though, depending on many factors, 2k upscales can sometimes look better than poorly produced 4k native masters. |

That said, when a film shot in 4K+ is finished in 2K, I do end up wondering what it would look like if it was finished in 4K. |

Yeah, if a film was not laden with digital effects, shot on filmstock or 4k or higher digital cameras and still received a 2k DI, it does leave me wondering how it could have been with a true 4k master. |

I got a little bored so I used the advance search for everything that was Native 4K + Steelbook + US and got the following. I combined the seperate pages into one image so that's what the blank spaces are from. I'm surprised there's more than 100 already.

Is there a thread about movies that were actually shot in 4k or higher and don't just utilize or are scanned in 4K? I just think it would be interesting to show off the movies of the super high quality variety. A few recent movies off the top of my head are Roma, 1917 and Blade Runner 2049. Its becoming more and more common nowadays.
