It's hardly revelatory though, especially if one holds it to be true that VFX will be 2K by default even in a 4K DI. Until we get specific confirmation about specific titles being rebuilt (e.g. Le Martian) then nothing's set in stone.

From what I can tell it appears to be accurate concerning DIs.
Yeah was posted earlier in this or another thread
It is a good resource if the info is coming from someone in the know and not just this thread or others like it

Exactly my point, there's no new information there that I can see. It's more a collation of what IMDB sez with info gleaned from elsewhere on da webs. I guess it's a handy resource to have it all in one place...but isn't that partly what this thread is for?

Please remove The Martian and here is why:

To be honest; the more I see and learn of these FOX launch titles, the more I gonna hate them. These FOX titles are so cheap. With no immersive audio.
Then the cheap copy and paste work, to make these feel like 4K. Playing with RAW files if we may believe PR guy James Finn from 20th FOX.

That same James Finn didn't respond on questions, why there is no Dolby Atmos on these 4K UHD Blu-ray. No thank you, they wasted my credit for now.

The Martian has a lot of VFX, like on the space helmet, a 2K color grade, plus another 4K HDR grade on top of it.

We are not talking about Sony here, which has a little better reputation in creating 4K masters.

I think the real 4K DI titles should speak for themselves. And I have no problem with some upscale here and there. But The Martian is one big upscale mess.

We critical-users should not want this. Personally I don't.

Do you think you could include a text list above the pictures? I just think, for the future a text list would be easier to navigate.

We'll get some real 4K titles coming out soon and can see how The Martian measures up to them resolution-wise, and so one can wait for that before deciding. All this HDR and CGI makes it harder to tell if there is real 4K without some true benchmark to compare it to (like one of the Sony titles).

Unless you think The Martian has some 4K content but not enough of it to justify being in the list?

Pieter, you sound like a former disgruntled digital intermediate editor.

I just pointing my critical eyes on this subject. I just want 4K to succeed as well as physical media.

FOX just started badly on these 4K Blu-rays. Samsung's 4K UHD Blu-ray player joins that camp too. Banding issues, app problems and so more.

The high prices they want for software/hardware and it is under performing, is such a let down. After waiting so long. FOX did screw up for now, hopefully Warner & Sony won't.

The banding issues are because of peoples displays not the player. Once displays are set properly, the banding goes away...

Yeah, the OLED and LCD owners found cutting DC off and setting HDMI color up right fixed that. It is one thing you can't blame the player for LOL.

The larger issue is we all went into this behind a learning curve of how to set the damn things up for HDR and WCG.

I am disappointed that "The Kingsman" 4K BluRay did not have ATMOS on it. I saw that in the credits at the end of the movie that the theater release had it but not on the disc. How much effort would it have been to put it on the disc. Come on Fox, this is the format to put everything you could put on a disc.

Because they're anticipating double-dips in the future. Can't put everything on the disc now for launch.

I've heard the Fox discs are all 66GB too.

Is it me or does Fox have the worst rep with video releases?

On DVD, they stuck with 4:3 Letterboxed transfers when all the majors had switch to 16x9 anamorphic.

On BD, they stuck with barebones single-layer discs as long they could to save a penny or two.

I don't trust Fox to do anything right.
