and getting beyond listing of numbers, to the nitty gritty, another relatively little known resource (to hobbyists) is the mag from the Society of Camera Operators… http://soc.org/project/the-revenant-...-the-elements/

is the list in the OP 4k titles which have not been upscaled from 2k but actually a transfer from their true 4k source?

for instance The Martian was upscaled from 2k to 4k for its 4k blu-ray release, so im confused as to why its on the list

is there any way to distinguish "true 4k" titles on the packaging?

thanks

Putting aside the vfx, The Martian UHD BD is not an upscale from a 2k DI or not from a 4k master?

Yup. And also in the martian thread itself I think. :-)

Cant wait for my IMAX docs to come in from shout. We need more 70mm movies to be put out on UHD, so much potential native 4K content out there.

I wasn't aware there are any 4K UHD 65mm neg/70mm movie titles released or "on the horizon" as yet. But when they are announced I'll be diving right in. These larger format classics will come to fresh life and new appreciation for younger generations thanks to new technology in the home.

Any of you had the chance to compare Spiderman Mastered in 4K and Amazing Spiderman 2 4K Ultra HD?

Guess you will have to wait for the Starz/Anchor Bay/Weinstein's to jump on UHD BD.

How far can 4K re-mastering go? Would it be possible in the future to turn old classics like Ten Commandments, Ben Hur, or Cleopatra into 4K films?

To my knowledge the 65/70mm sources of those three have nothing wrong with them (unlike Lawrence of Arabia) so there is no reason they cannot except money and the will of the studios.

Yeah, I am tempted to buy this one. I do not own, and have not even seen on blu I think. Maybe, but it has been a long time. Would be a fun one to watch.

Gotcha. I am going to get ID4 on UHD, and I just preordered Ghostbusters 1 on UHD.

Like what, for example? 1950s classics?
