Yeah, Fox do what they do re: upscaling for HDR grading and that's fine, all the studios who've released UHDs so far have made it quite obvious that the content on these discs must be in 2160p by hook or by crook - they've got a format to sell so putting out native 1080p res ain't gonna be a great PR move. But I think you'd be surprised at how good a 1080p UHD HEVC-encoded disc would look, and TBH you need to check what your Samsung player is kicking out when you switch to 1080p, I'll bet cash money that it's 8-bit SDR 709 which makes such comparisons to a native 1080p UHD disc worthless (hence my first point above). And to add to the pain, by the time DolbyVision sets are available, there will be few to no manufacturers still making 3D sets. So, in a year or two, we could have sets that are really spectacular for both 3D and HDR, but... we'll probably just have the latter, instead.

To be honest, and since I can accurately cal my display for 3D and not for UHD/HDR, after watching The Martian both ways, I take the 3D version...

that is not so; Dolby Vision (dynamic metadata) even 'works' with HD rec.709 (8-bit) displays (offering 'improved' picture quality), this is one of the 'major benefits' of Dolby Vision
i 'highly recommend' further research by 'anyone' wishing to be 'accurate' with regards to Dolby Vision and it's 'many benefits' Dolby Vision :: 'white paper' http://www.dolby.com/us/en/technolog...hite-paper.pdf Dolby Vision :: at home (Dolby :: site) http://www.dolby.com/us/en/home/index.html |

Hey guys,
10 Cloverfield lane was released in Australia the other day on Blu-Ray, but no 4K. Are they not releasing every movie on 4K? |

No. Besides, it's Paramount. They're only just getting into the UHD game. They just released their first two titles in the US.
