In all fairness, you're right that there need to be comparisons. I already knew the film was finished in 2K, but I would hope the increased color gamut and HDR would improve the already excellent image of the regular BD. I don't have the film yet but this does come with a combo pack, so I could at least future proof it the day I get a 4K tv. I'm waiting for enough money and an OLED tv that displays rec. 2020.

Look at the number of titles with 7.1 sound, there are quite a few but MOST do not make very good use of the 7.1 sound. Dolby Atmos or DTS:X ought to be standard now but only big budget titles get it and very few of those make it to disc.

In many cases there is a large gap between what is and what could be. IMHO, it will be no different between BD and UHD BD.
There are still too many lazy soundmixers before and after Dolby Atmos/DTS:X. Where many sound effects could have been used in the rears, but they didn't.

'John Wick' is another example. When John is testing his car, that scene is heavily front based. The sound mixer could have mixed engine sound etc into the rear channels.

I also saw comments of: 'San Andreas' where more actively was welcome.
'The Gunman' isn't that involving either.

Gunman had one good scene, American Sniper was worse than any you listed, just behind Ultron

Unbroken still is the reigning champion in Atmos home media.

Age of Ultron was bad.

I had zero complaints on American Sniper. The Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track was very immersive with good DB levels in the rears. Great mix. Dolby Atmos is a great new tool for mixers to place effects in certain directions.

The fact American Sniper didn't use the ceiling speakers that much, doesn't make it a bad mix. But not every movie leans for it, like American Sniper. American Sniper has many moments on ground level and close combat with door to door searching for enemies.

I was talking strictly Atmos, it was an upmix like many

IMO, it is a matter of money and the content creators do not want to pony up the cash. Creating sound effect stems takes a lot of man hours to do. There used to be three people doing the final re-recording for most A titles but that changed sometime back and the use two people became the norm.

Same with camera crews, one man, one handheld camera. It looks like amateur hour with many supposedly A titles because the purse folks don't want to pay for tracks and dollys, cranes, Steadicams, etc.

Too bad none of the movies on the list are particularly good. The best is the mediocre Amazing Spider-Man 2 and that one is a 3D title making it still in my personal opinion a downgrade

For the most part I agree with that for those shot on digital but there are a few good ones. For the film based movies there are quite a few good ones.

The real question is, will there be a substantial upgrade in PQ in regards to BD vs. UHD BD fot the titles in question. So far that has not been the case for BD vs. SEN downloads (FMP-X1 and FMP-X10 [which I have]).

True but the 3D conversion was generally good and not something I would want to lose. Its just a personal preference. Even for a true Ultra HD presentation losing 3D for it doesn't work for me unless the 3D was really crappy.

If its a 2K title like Life of Pi with an excellent 3D presentation the Ultra HD release will be a huge downgrade over the version I have owned for almost 3 years and thus totally worthless

I know but with Ultra HD Blu-Ray lacking it I find it baffling that many of the first Ultra HD titles are 3D movies mastered in 2k since I see such titles as completely wasting this formats potential. I am mostly looking forward to this upcoming format for all films that were never meant to be in 3D but with native 4k masters ready to go

Glad they are doing the smart thing and releasing combo packs right off the bat. I can then watch the bluray and then have the 4K Ultra HD bluray waiting for whenever I decide to go 4K.
