Life is an odd duck which worked at half the resolution of the Alexa 65 for the DI instead of upscaling it to 4k. HD Goofnut and RealorFake4k have different criteria for their lists. |

No, I haven't seen/heard any reasoning and can only make assumptions. But they are the second film with that type of workflow (that I'm aware of). The Great Gatsby was shot at 5k and the DI was 2.5k.

The PQ of films like 'Alien: Covenant' and 'IT' were already incredible looking. I can only imagine how amazing 'Blade Runner 2049' is going to be in that format. Here's to hoping that this will be one of Warner Bros' home releases that finally gets the Dolby Vision treatment. |

Given how good Life actually looks in 4K - resolution and all - then I'm all for those kinds of halfway house finishes in lieu of a full 4K workup. It'll get the purists in a tizzy (which isn't difficult) but why not try and meet inbetween (3K-ish, say) while we're waiting for proper 4K to become the standard? Jurassic World was finished at 2.4K ("2K plus") so even that's got a little bit extra in the tank when it comes to the inevitable 4K upscale for UHD.

Where is your local theater? I wonder not only about the calibration and general set-up of the projector, but about the screen fabric and the light treatment around the screen area. The quality of the content certainly won't hurt, but hopefully it isn't all downhill from there.

The fully "real" 4k masters will be fully 4k, including any CG. The "fake" 4k releases are basically just 2k upscale nonsense. (which I will never buy out of principle) Even the 3.2k stuff is a big improvement over 2k upscales or standard blu rays. "Life" is just a unique case since its a 3.2k master instead of a full 4k master. Probably since the CG is 3.2k and in order to help everything look more uniform, they decided to make a 3.2k master instead of having 4k shots mixed with 3.2k cg. |

The Real or Fake site claims it’s a 4k di, but filmed at 2.8k, with 2k cg.
