Isn't fox usually a bunch of hardasses when it comes to region locking if so then my guess is doubtful.

well they are notorius for region locking their releases, yest prison break season 3 was region free, and some titles in the uk have even been region free, i dont really understand their reasoning, maybe they are going to region lock this because the uk dont get it till October, i hope not, as i've got an order for it and the dvd version from Axel music.

Hm... if it's sometimes locked (or mostly?) and sometimes not,
I guess it just depends on the title and how much they want to sell of it.
Depending on popularity, demand, etc.

Fox would just love to have something like 'The Lord Of The Rings'.
They could lock the heck out of it to just purge sales since everyone goes horny for it.
Unless they work the other way around, that when it's popular enough,
they don't lock it since it would sell anyway.
I don't know, just some guessing.

It's pretty common to lock the latest "season" or the latest film in a series.

Do you mean only the first few batches are locked, but that eventually the lock will disappear? I mean, season 1 to 3 were once new too, where they locked too in the beginning?

Another thing worth mentioning is that the US releases of the other Weeds seasons have simply no region information on the back, while a rare European release by Sony explicitly prints "a b c".

There is another site that claims it has tested Weeds and found it indeed to be region locked. This was however posted 05-22. I really would love to see an official review of a version that was obtained after the official release date.

This was the site I was referring to above. But look at the date of the test; Friday, May 22, 2009. The release in question wasn't released until Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

I agree that it's getting more and more grim by the minute, but I'd still like to see a review based on the June 2 release. Maybe movietyme got a hold of some early pre-release disc?

Retailers usually receive titles long before the release date. When I preorder, I usually receive everything 1-3 weeks before actual release date.

That sounds pretty bad actually and diminishes my hope greatly that the 'final' release is not region encoded after all

There still is the straw to hold on to that eventually the lock will just disappear. I got season 3 on blu about 6~7 months after it was released and it was not region coded. Played well on my region B PS3.

If all else fails, I guess there is no other option than to either download the season from the Internet or import a region A player. I'm not really a big fan of downloading, so I guess it's going to be importing the player then.
