I agree that it's getting more and more grim by the minute, but I'd still like to see a review based on the June 2 release. Maybe movietyme got a hold of some early pre-release disc?
I am now 100% certain it is region locked. I think this is just so rude to release season 1-2-3 region free and then release the latest season 4 Locked. it pisses me off. The sad thing is those who have bought the early seasons overseas is never gonna get to complete the set anymore. Because WEEDS is not released on Blu on Region B just like DEXTER.

I almost see no otherway out anymore. Where can you buy good/cheap region free BluRay players? or where to buy good/cheap Region A players?

I have rarely been so pissed off about anything before!

Are these guys doing this on purpose or so? Getting people hooked on the show and then suddenly region coding it. "Hahah, you stupid foreigners. This show is for true Americans only". Seriously, WTF!?

Well, for some strange reason Sony did release season 1 on Blu in France and Germany, maybe other European states too, but not in the UK. Maybe Sony figured that UK residents would just get the US release, I mean what's the difference between a US and a UK release anyway?

I'm not sure yet, I saw a couple of places in the past that I plan to check out soon.

i figure it is much cheaper to import a Region A player then to buy a Region free player. So if you find anything or others do please post the info here and if they ship overseas of course

Yeah, if I can find one that takes 240V. The PS3 will. The oppo will. Not sure what other brands will.

I was thinking about one other complication. In general it's easy to import a second player, but it's not that easy to import a second TV. Does any player attempt to check whether the region of the TV (if it even has a region hidden somewhere) and the region of the player match?

Why would you import a TV? PAL region TVs are generally always superior in their multi format handling (ie, will take 60i and 50i, where the US counterparts won't take 50i). But no region checking on the TV as far as I know.

I'm wondering if someone knows the region free UK titles that are currently not scheduled for release in the states, because I am putting in an order for Batman Returns and was wondering which other ones I should get?

The back scan of Ghostbusters indicates Region A,B,C so it would appear to be region free

If there's no region checking between a TV and a player, then of course there is no reason to import a TV.

This is an email I sent to lionsgate:

To whom it may concern:

I recently bought the Weeds season 4 blu-ray from Amazon.com. I live in Australia and have become a huge fan of the show after buying the previous seasons on blu-ray through Amazon. The first 3 seasons of the show were region free so I assumed (incorrectly it turns out) that season 4 would also be region free. I therefore pre-ordered season 4 back in January and have spent the months since then eagerly anticipating this new season. It was to my complete surprise to find out that season 4 was region locked.

Seasons of Weeds have not been released on blu-ray in Australia yet (the first season is set to be released on the 8th of July according to ezydvd.com.au). It is a terrible idea to lock seasons of of a TV show if the previous seasons have been released region free. I could have downloaded the episodes off the internet hours after they are shown in the USA if I wanted to, but I really enjoy watching the show in the best possible format. I like to think that by buying the blu-rays I'm helping support the creators and companies that produce amazing shows such as weeds and therefore very, very slightly helping future seasons and new clever shows get made.

I have emailed amazon.com and hopefully they will let me send back season 4 and refund my money. I will continue to wait for the Weeds season 4 blu-ray to be released in Australia (or a region free version from another country) before watching it (I know that you probably aren't involved in overseas releases). It's fantastic being able to watch shows like Weeds and Mad Men in high-definition and I refuse to take the easy route by illegally downloading episodes off the internet. It is upsetting that season 4 of this fantastic show is region locked but on the plus side if it wasn't for weeds seasons 1-3 being region free, I probably would have never have discovered this show. It was great while it lasted!
