It's region locked, not yet sure though if the NewLine workaround will work on it.

I'll add it to my site (the blurayregioncodes-thingy), once I get home from work

The person who sent me the region code info, tested the workaround on his Panasonic Blu-Ray player and says it didn't work. Though I'm not sure does the workaround usually work on Panasonic players ?

If you compare the Blu-Ray situation with the DVD region codes though, there has been a huge improvement. Outside small releases it is hard to find region free DVDs.

I feel it's a huge step backwards. Why? Because whether there were 2 regions or 50 with DVD, it was a null point because all players outside of the USA were effectively region free out of the box.

Blu-ray players are not region free.

One of the big sticking points why studios like Fox and Disney refused to go HD DVD was lack of region coding and poor copy protection

It was a dealbreaker for them

Buy a region A player if it's that important to you, because I expect sooner rather than later BD+ will detect any modchips that come out and refuse to play

Chinese crap decks are region free in or out of the USA with remote hacking

They will not be allowed to do this with Blu. Nor is there the ungodly waits that other countries used to experience anymore for the most part

Are you region A native WickyWoo? I can't see a region B user being this shortsighted.

region locked blu-ray is a large inconvience for the consumer, and will cost the companies money I use sites like this to see if the discs are region free and purchase them before their release in region b (Aust), a lot of movies i would have bought have been region locked therfore did not purchase i was annoyed and the distributor missed out... just make them region free everyone wins.

If I lived in Region B, I never would have bought a Region B player in the first place. US and Japanese releases VS European/Australian? No contest, I would've imported a Region A PS3 as soon as I got the chance. If you've already shelled out for a Region B player, then sell it and import a new player or wait until prices come down and import one, or wait to see what develops on the region free player front. At least it isn't nearly as bad as it was with DVD. ALL studios region coded their discs, not just a couple. And how long was it before region free DVD players were cheap/commonplace?

Seriously, you're just going to have to deal with the fact that region coding is important to some studios. Would you rather have region encoded discs from a studio or no discs from that studio? Because Fox wouldn't be releasing anything if they couldn't region code their discs.

[Sarcasm]Yes, I could see the entire North American market importing a player from region B if the situation was reversed. [\sarcasm]

There are many fox releases in region A that have not been released in region B. There is no guarantee that all region A fox releases will be released in region B (assuming they have distribution rights). Region coding and not releasing them is effectively the same thing in many examples.

It seems you are in Japan - region A. Lucky you.
