That's called "not having a choice in the matter"; it's not evidence that a studio wouldn't use region coding if they could.

Their catalog title blu-rays appear to be region free. The real test will be the new releases.

I just decided to switch my player to region A by applying the US sofware. I then tried my region B (french) discs, and almost all of them were readable as expected (I looked at the list before) except a few from Fox and MGM (and Death sentence from IEV (UK) also) of course.
I was pleasantly surprised however to see that the following titles were readable on my newly region A - set player :

Die Hard (Fox)
I, robot (Fox)
Usual Suspects (MGM)

Any news on the region coding of Into the wild (region B France) that's coming up in a few days?

Default Universal Blu-ray region code

The movies reviewed (The Mummy films and The Scorpion King) showed Region A, but this site has made mistakes before.
Can anyone confirm the region for Universal Blu-ray movies?
I was hoping Universal Blu-ray would be region free like how they were with HD DVD.

You can now also view and submit region code information for all titles, just click on the "Region coding" link that you can find on all movie listing pages.
That's not all necessarily true. All new Disney titles aren't coded. Like "National Treasure 2". While the cover said "A" it worked fine on my European Blu Ray Player

I too am wondering about Universal. While I have most of their titles on HD-DVD I really was hoping that their new Blu Titles will be regionfree

Yes how hard is it just to tell us if this is region coded or not.

Some say region code: A,b,c other say A so what is it.
Can't anyone let us now. ???????????????????
