Any news on the Day The Earth Stood Still (1951) is region free. I know its Fox, so my hopes are not very high.

What possible, logical reason could there possibly be for that? We were told region encoding was vital for theatrical protection and local distributor protection (although how that argument stands up when the whole world is only split into 3 regions on Blu-ray itself is beyond me).

There's a reason most DVD players in Europe are purchased region free out of the box, and it's not just because people want to skip theatrical release windows. It's because without region free players, a lot of DVDs available in the US, even now, would be unavailable in Europe.
My guess would be to protect local sales and to be able to better control localization, release dates, promotional tie-ins, bundles, ad campaigns, etc.

there is no A on "I want to believe" and that is locked as well. So i think we can asume stupid FOX has coded this as well. I have been saying all along FOX and the studios that code even catalog discs is the worst enemy for BLURAY

So Fox are selling region locked discs without any info on the cover...
Isn't that what you would call false marketing?

There is an expectancy that discs will be region locked, plus these products say right on the package that they are only licensed for sale in their territory of origin. So no, it is not false marketing.

If people assumed discs were region free due to general policy, and importing was not expressly discouraged by disc manufacturers, then maybe you would have a point - but it is quite the opposite, unfortunately. I don't agree with region coding, I think it is an unnecessary restriction, but there's nothing illegal about it or the way Fox is using it.

But only FOX US is Locking catalog titles so it IS false marketing.
Because why should we in europe think FOX US is defirrent then FOX in UK. They are fooling people overseas because how the hell can we see the package on a discs when we buy online

And your remark "There is an expectancy that discs will be region locked"
Is a lie Warner, Paramount, universal do not Lock and Sony pictures are beginning to release Region Free as well.
I really hope you only mean FOX US with that remark. because if you don't you are wrong
