As stated before, there is no way to know for sure until the title is released and tested. You can however get a good idea of whether it will be locked or not by looking at the distrubutor and comparing it with other recent releases.

Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows whether the Chinese (Region C) releases of Flash Point & Invisible Target by Universe Laser have any region encoding? I can't find anyway that has any info about encoding from Region C.

Does anyone know if the UK version will be playable on US equipment? If so, I am ALL OVER IT. I was reading the article on here and it was mentioned that since this was a catalog title, it shouldn't be region-coded, but will it be PAL only? Does PAL/NTSC even APPLY to HD? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really don't know. Never imported before. Last edited by Croweyes1121; 01-04-2008 at 11:37 AM. |

I know about the Japanese release, and I'll get that if I have to...but I know it'll be a lot cheaper to import from Europe than Japan. That's why I asked specifically about the newly-announced UK version (see the link I provided).

Ahem...yeah, but Almost Famous is distributed by Dreamworks in the states, not Sony. Dreamworks = HD DVD exclusive. So no US release. Hence my interest in the imports in the first place.

I know it's the Director's Cut, but the amazon.co.uk info is obviously wrong, listing instead the film's theatrical running time of 122 mins. Even the cover art says it's the Director's Cut. But my question is...
Even if amazon.co.uk says it's 162 minutes, that's by no means definitive proof that it's not going to be 156 minutes (or whatever the PAL-sped-up equivalent would be). Amazon's certainly not above making errors. Also, I want to know if this will be an issue at all. Are Blu-rays PAL and NTSC or does that even apply in the HD realm. Anyone know an answer to this? To my knowledge, PAL and NTSC are SD standards and do not apply to Blu-ray or HD DVD. Of course, I could be wrong.
And I have no idea if the UK one will play. My guess is that it won't because Europe is Region B, and the Japanese one is region coded. |

Well, I know that the resolution difference has been eliminated by HD, but PAL is still 25fps and NTSC is still 24fps, are they not? I'm mainly just worried about the PAL 4% speed-up issue. I can't stand it, drives me nuts.

You needn't worry about this any more.

Okay, so does that mean that the 4% speed-up doesn't happen any longer (with HDM)? Can someone answer this question CLEARLY please? lol All I want to know is...
IF this title is region-free, will there be PAL speed-up on it (if it's in PAL at all...if there even IS such a thing as PAL with HDM)? In other words - - is this title being region-free the ONLY thing I need to worry about when importing or do I need to worry about PAL vs NTSC and speed-up issues, too?! I think I'm more confused now than when I made the original post. lol Anyone know what I'm asking??? Last edited by Croweyes1121; 01-04-2008 at 02:20 PM. |
