That may appear to be true in some cases but, that’s not quite accurate…………at least, in regards to SPHE – where everything in the Sony Pictures library that needs to be remastered for HD, will eventually be done with the same care and effort ($), just from an asset management perspective…… regardless of potential home media revenues.

Potential sales drive how quickly the work will be done and how soon people will eventually see the titles on Blu-ray.

We're getting Paris-Nice in widescreen today on Versus HD, but it's definitely not high resolution. Since the same company that runs P-N owns the Tour, hopefully that is a start in the right direction.

You're right Penton, I worded it badly. I should have said "speed and quantity"

just watching the 1932 film Vampyr and it just occured to me that the movements of the people on screen seem faster than normal. This is also the case with some of the early Charley Chaplin films. Is this to do with the number of frames per second?

I saw LoA in the theater when I was 13. Actually, I saw it twice, and loved it. To this day, it is one of my favorite films and one that I have owned on VHS, Laserdisc, and DVD. I am very grateful and excited about the possibility of this legendary film coming to Blu-ray soon. My guess, as just an average guy, is that this title is probably the number one requested title of what I would call "Classic" films, and I do believe that it will sell better than one might think.

Regarding "Gandhi" it only got 3/5 in the current DVD/Blu Ray Review magazine. Surely these scores will not help sales.

I believe that some of the very old films were filmed at frame rates slower than 24 fps. Unfortunately, today these films are frequently played back at 24 fps. IMDB does not list the frame rate for Vampyr, but, interestingly, it was filmed with an aspect ratio of 1.19:1

Sky Arts HD are now showing Cecil B DeMille's "Carmen" from 1915. Its fantastic to see these movies on TV.

More people need to grade films based on their potential rather than using the shiny movie made yesterday

Gandhi looks outstanding for what Gandhi can be

Forgot to respond, and when I just saw such an article attempting to explain it, it reminded me about your question. Long story short, value has been destroyed:

http://finance.yahoo.com/focus-retir...buildingwealth

Raising the capital gains tax won't do anything. I would, however, like to see them raise the limit on deductions for losses. At 3K per year, many people will be deducting for a long, long time my friend.

BTW, it's gonna be alright.

no, but it might sufficiently mean that?

no stories of the 2 different LOA DVD releases? You seem to know where all the skeletons are buried, after all... Or is the story simply of a different master used for the Superbit? (ie., no drama at all...)

That story about the different LOAs was out years ago

They didn't consult RAH, who knows David Lean's preferences to a T, and mis-colortimed it and used an old master. A new scan was done for the Superbit, and it was properly color timed

yeah, those two posts above go together... Jeff, that was the rough story as I heard it (maybe even through the 'Bits) but I was looking for a bit more detail from the inside, if available... I figured it might have some insight about what we're to expect from this forthcoming title...

Respectfully, Jeff, so do you... But we all know that the place to be is here chillin' in Penton's hottub, no? I mean, why else do -you- hang out here?

Point taken I'm just saying that if you want more dirt than that, that's where to go

Honestly, I don't remember there being much more to it than that.

I think when they were originally projected, some silent films eg. comedies were projected faster than they were filmed. http://cinemaweb.com/silentfilm/bookshelf/18_kb_2.htm

RAH, Grover Crisp and Penton Man as well as others that are involved with LOA who are members here or on other forums could certainly tell us a lot about what is going on at the moment. Still I doubt that much info will come out before the Blu-Ray is actually announced due to a variety of reasons.

And that is fine with me as long as the final product does the movie justice which imo is a given with the track record of the parties involved.
