The tool strikes again- BARAKA on Blu-ray is "filtered" and looks "like a pile of mushy crap", and "problems with the transfer" of GHOSTBUSTERS "were predicted years ahead of time" :

Most of your post deals with a topic not allowed for discussion under the forum rules. Not a very smart way to make your point. I agree 100% with you in that it is not consumer friendly to include a new catalog release (CTHD) exclusively in a collectors set with two previously released titles. Somebody really slipped with that marketing ploy.

The “ultra fine detail” everywhere that “the tool” comments about in The International is really not so much a reflection of what was or wasn’t done during the production of the Blu-ray transfer…..which was relatively straightforward and not any different than typical protocol used for any other SPHE Blu-ray, i.e. make the encode as transparent as possible to the HD master, unless the filmmaker directs otherwise for some reason.
The crisp look of the motion picture is really related to the fact that the DP primarily used Arri Master Prime lenses (which are super sharp) with no diffusion to capture the great majority of the imagery during the principal photography. In fact, the DP has gone on record stating on more than one occasion that he strives to have the sharpest possible negative! I don’t know what “the tool” means by “the problems” with the transfer on Ghostbusters “were predicted years ago”. I mean, you can’t ask for much more than getting Laszlo Kovacs (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...ostcount=10050) involved with the production of the HD master. I did however keep my notes from a cinematographer workshop up at Lake Arrowhead from “years ago” (’94 or ’95) in which Laszlo spoke about Ghostbusters, and his intentions thereof, so I guess I could always dig those out, if need be. ![]() P.S. RAH, I see in that link posted to that fine review ![]() The reasoning was the DP felt that (through past experiences) that panoramic 35mm shots sometimes had the tendency to appear a little more grainy than medium or close-up shots on 35mm film. So, that’s how the idea came about for shooting some scenes in 65mm, in other words, he wanted the panoramic shots to be essentially grain free along with being as sharp as possible. I tried visiting the link to the "tool's" review of The International to see what all kind of nonsense he wrote about Baraka. Ended up getting a "404 - File Not Found" error.
Maybe the guy took down the article after getting an inferno's worth of flames. |

Bobby, I noticed you were talking about the Canon EOS 5D Mark II on the Digital Bits et. al. thread with folks there. Given the Blu-ray Star Trek news of today, I thought you would get a kick out of this clip, starting when J.J. Abrams interrupts his own interview and says “Is that the Mark II?”....followed by “So, where’d you get this, and why don’t I have one”. ![]() http://digital.littlewhitelies.co.uk...ter-egg-2.html For the record, the interview was shot with a Canon Mark II and a Sony EX-1 (not shown). This is the actual interview for the Star Trek fans out there…. http://www.littlewhitelies.co.uk/tv/...rek-interview/ |

Well, I knew that Vincent was referring to “Kram Sacul” or “Mark Lucas” if one desires to do the intended grade school letter reversal game.
Bobby, if you’re confused, to elaborate further, Vincent linked to the top feedback comment made by “Kram Sacul” in which he was *analyzing* The International, Baraka and Ghostbusters in a two sentence hit-and-run followed by a slew of other feedback comments made by other people. I just avoided commenting about Baraka, as that horse has been beaten into the ground repeatedly in the past. Out of the office by 8. Have a good weekend folks. ![]() |

I didn't know a lot of other video camera oriented accessories could be attached to an EOS 5D Mark II camera body. It looked like a video assist monitor was attached. I'm actually very close to "pulling the trigger" on buying an EOS 5D Mark II camera body. I have more than enough money in the bank to get it. The trouble is most places have it on back order. The 1080p AVC video recording capability is very interesting. I've read about a number of workarounds shooters can use in defeating the "auto" nonsense of the Live View only mode for 1080p recording. My main motive in buying the EOS 5D Mark II is its 21 megapixel sensor and awesome sensitivity. Using Photoshop and other "panorama" stitching tools, I'll be able to create some very high resolution shots great for doing vehicle wraps on vans, trucks and buses. It won't take more than 3 to 5 shots to completely fill the background on most large vehicles at full size resolutions of 60ppi to 72ppi. There's a LOT of "bad wraps" out there where that checkerboard pixel pattern is all too visible if you get within a few feet of the vehicle. That absolutely SUCKS. I'm probably going to add Canon's EF 135mm f/2.0L USM lens to my arsenal. It's one of the sharpest lenses Canon makes. That will come in handy for getting the most out of a 21 megapixel sensor.
