So, I just saw what classic film has ascended to the top of the list for one of the studios in regards to “it’s due for archiving” and it will fit in this year’s budget.

This means a digital restoration, not some video restoration of an HD format (which in itself, is not an inexpensive proposition) but a full blown digital restoration with all the trimmings starting with the OCN. I suspect that Robert Harris will be called in for the color stuff, at least.

This could, and I emphasize the word could, have implications as to the home theater (Blu-ray) edition in 2009 or 2010.

Home to the 2 of the 3 ORIGINAL New York Pizza families shops. Grimaldies under the Brooklyn Bridge (the orignal Patsy's before the name was sold to a franchise) and Tottonnos in Coney Island. Back to Brooklyn, the hands down best Sicilian Pizza (square slice) as per many many ratings and reviews, comes out of L&B Spumoni Gardens in Gravesend. You can't be a true New Yorker without eating this before you pass.

I'll stick with the Lower East side.

I can only hope that it is a true digital archive and not just a high end digital master that they believe is equivalent to a digital archive. I would hope the people involved will realize once they call whatever they create an "archive" that some day people will think they don't have to maintain the originals any longer because the "archive" exists. I also hope they archive all the meta data associated with the capture and the imaging systems involved. That will be critical in years to come.

But Wicky is 100% right. Same thing with NY bagels. I'm not from NY and am partial to Chicago Pizza since I grew up on that. However, I knew a bagel place in Florida in my travels where the owner formerly from NY would bring NY water in to make his "NY bagels". I actually sampled the bagels with Florida vs NY water, and it made a difference. I have a bagel every morning when I am in NY on business, no comparison.

It can't be LOA because we all assume that this title is already being processed for Blu-ray, right? My guess is Gone with the Wind. Am I in the ballpark? But it would be really cool if you are referring to Godfather. But is GF old enough to be considered "classic?"

If the choice is between food and a new TV, food wins every time. The economy is not in a good place right now and unless the cost of oil starts to drop discretionary income is going to be in short supply.

obviously, like I said, new 3000$ TVs could hurt a bit but we are 30$ talking movies. On the other hand what you need to realize is that a re3cession hits a few extremely hard (lost jobs) but for most it is just a psychological malaise. It is a "wow this neighbour, this friend or this family member lost a job and is now trying to survive on nothing, I read in the news paper again today that an other plant closed down or laid of Y people" so even though he can still, in theory, continue with his life, he starts wondering if he will be on of the unlucky ones, and so cuts down on big items (just in case he needs the money) but then spends more on small items that help him escape the depressing reality.

Godfather is already going under extensive restoration at the behest of Spielberg, possibly for theatrical and dvd rerelease in 2008. A Blu-ray would certainly be news as nothing has been said about that, but the fact that restoration is happening is certainly not.
