BTW, the reason why I replied to this post (though Max's thread might be more appropriate) is that Max might now want to edit his post where YOU were quoted to edit out said company as well. I could have sworn I recently posted the name of said company on a recent post on this board as well, but I couldn't find the post... so maybe I was mistaken.

The sad thing is Max will get banned before Obi does. Whatever happened to my beloved HTF?

You noticed that.
As far as I’m concerned it’s just another washing cycle……..i.e. wash, rinse, spin dry………..
Then, repeat the process a few days/weeks later with a different operator at the switch.

What I find amusing is how naďve the “online experts”….....gizmo, R.G., etc. are, in regards to the “production queue” and what happens routinely to orders when studios decide to delay or indefinitely postpone titles due to a variety of reasons including marketing factors.

P.S.
I really wonder what these guys will come up with in 6 months or a year from now as a new *topic of choice*.

Could just be a residual effect of the Ashley Cole business...Like PTSD for football fans.. Max, try that excuse, now it's a health issue and legal can't do anything about that!!!

Seems to be a fill-in-the-blank for a lot of great sites.

Obi SHOULD know better, but you know... emotions get the best of us all at times. I wasn't about to continue to let him take shots at me unchecked, but he's a good guy. Cooler heads will prevail in time, I suspect.

The sad fact of the matter is that on some other forums these days anyone with a keyboard and an internet connection can suddenly become an immediate “insider” or portray himself as such with phrases like “I have been told”, “my sources say”, etc. and then spew forth some opinion as fact.

My best advice to all new members to this forum that frequent other forums (like HTF or AVS) and are unfamiliar with the most infamous HD DVD “supporters” is to check their past posting history.
All of them and I mean all of them….. R.G., D.V., rdjam, plazman, Kosty, etc. have made some of the most ridiculous predictions, or proclamations about upcoming “studio press announcements” based on “their sources” that turned out to be baloney.

Do your research. Go back and look at all previous predictions, assertions, etc. from all these wanna-bees and form your own conclusions. The paper trail does not lie. The insiders here (or at least what I’ve read of their postings) have been nearly impeccable or outright perfect.

Thank God you finally showed up.
As paidgeek is now "officially" on vacation throughout all of next week and I'll be busy as a bee for the next several days.

I hope you (as well as our other insiders ) can carry some of the load.

Me tired.

I'd always wonder at the stupidity that these guys would spew. Were they so stupid they didn't realize there would be a record of their garbage?

Penton, boy you really hit the nail on the head there. For the last year when I read some of this stuff, I always look up that poster's previous posts and sure enough, there is so much BS. Excellent suggestion.

It's really sad to see the division that has happened within the home theater movie-loving community. I remember before the format war started how excited we all got with new special editions and other things for dvd. Sadly, some people have become downright curel, I think to the point where if these were forums in-person, there would be many severe fist fights.

It amazes me that the hd-dvd fanboys always had the same gripes about blu-ray and now that the format has lost, they are on the "download is the future" thing, which we all know would not be their "opinion (fact to them) if hd-dvd had won. Their cutting down and accusations of others has been really low, they have been especially rude to those who run web sites that chose to use their editorial right to make their choice of a format.

I totally agree with your point, and I think it will be a while until we start seeing a lot of classics on HD due to sales. Robin Hood didn't do as bad as you thought. If I had to "guess" I would say a little over 5800 copies. Casablance did a little better, and that doesn't take into account that it was on the 5 free list for a long time. They each sold more than "newer" titles like Lethal Weapon 1 (both formats combined!) Lethal Weapon 2 (both formats combined!), Music and Lyrics (both formats combined!) Road Warrior, 16 Blocks, License to Wed, (either fomat, not combined)

Here are some other "guesses" for classic sales numbers. Number is total sales of the title including both formats:

Jailhouse Rock: 1000
Viva Las Vegas: 1500
Wild Bunch: 3800
Forbidden Planet: 3300 (HD DVD only, both versions)
Battle of the Bulge: 2000
Cowboys: 1400
Rio Bravo: 3100
Dirty Dozen: 7300
MoB: 1100 (HD DVD only)

All numbers, I mean "guesses" were rounded up or down to the nearest 100 and include sales from release through 2007. To help put the numbers in perspective, Troy on HD DVD sold just a little less than all the classics listed in this post (including Robin Hood, Casablanca and all the BDs included in the above numbers), so while some titles moved decent numbers for classic movies, sales numbers are low overall. If you want to see your favorite classic out on in HD sooner rather than later buy the classic titles that they release so they will see a market for them. I am really looking forward to seeing more classics released in the future.

I got my number on Robin Hood direct. Yours may be the number shipped to retailers, but mine was sellthrough from someone who has access to the figures

Believe me I wish it were different. It's one of my favorite movies of all time.

I finally saw it in 35mm in September, it was glorious, and that was a print from 1998, before Lowry gave it a good scrubbing and they did the ultra-resolution alignment.
