I 100% agree with this. I am against $$$ going to Universal to get them on board, but am not against "help" to get their releases up to the level set by SPHE, Disney/BV Home Video, and to some extent Fox.

Penton-Man was telling us to lay off Kenny G a bit, so if they are tight I hope P-Man can relay the sentiment that we'd rather wait a bit longer for something better than a rush/port job to get BD on the shelves.

If Universal began investigating Blu-ray replication way back in September, shouldn't they already be working on encoding titles? You'd think they'd want to hit the ground running after the announcement.

He may be towing the company line.

If you look at HDM charting of software sales at Amazon by HDD or eproduct wars, HDDVD software has completely taken a dump.

I wouldn't read too much into Ken's statements right now. He may be in charge of the HM division but he's also talking for HD-DVD forum still.

If he lets his personal feeling conflict with Universals HDM profits too much GE will step in change his mind or change his employment status.

Towing the line is "at this time we have no plans to drop hd" or something like that.
This is pure idiocy.

Thanks!
Sorry, I’m not familiar with any aspect of the production other than I’m pretty damn sure Steven S. used “Peter Andrews” as his D.P.

I haven’t watched the movie on Blu-ray either.

I was particularly surprised by the comments made with respect to Universal's position, especially the "aren't good enough" comment. Are the time lines set forth for Paramount and Universal accurate? I'd hate to have to wait all the way until the end of the year to see Universal support Blu-ray Disc.
Bill is a sharp fellow and has excellent sources.

You have to understand that this is a fluid situation. What does a few months, give or take, really mean at this point as long as you guys all know the eventual outcome.

What matters is this continues to delay mass adoption. We'll all be forced into downloads at this point. Here comes 720p apple tv.

Like I mentioned a bit earlier in my post on the Writer’s strike, there is always some public posturing going on for one reason or another.

You really would think Toshiba, Universal and Paramount could handle the transition to Blu-ray a little more elegantly. Rather they maintain the company line, only to hit HD-DVD owners with another bombshell a few months down the line.

How about treating consumers with a little more respect?

What a bunch of negative people we have here. I can't believe people are actually afraid of downloads based on...what? Nothing.

Here, I just had got some inside word on the Nielsen numbers pertaining to this situation:

Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers ending a few seconds ago:

WE: BD-100% DL-0% YTD: BD-100% DL-0% SI: BD-100% DL-0%

Oh, no! The sky is falling!

Maybe you should read the thread at AVS about apples new box and 100% studio support.

Let BD drag around with 75% support for too long and see what happens. Your numbers wont look as good a year from now.

Not being negative, being irritated and realistic.

This is getting off topic for an insider thread. But really Downloads could have 100% studio support but they aren't targeting movie buyers, only renters and only a small portion for awhile. Being highly compressed lower res and only a small portion of them having 5.1, plus an even smaller number of Apple TV owners that can take advantage of them. I would bet BD has 100% studio support before too long.

A year from now iTunes HD films might be a very small threat to 360's HD marketplace and Amazon unboxed but not in direct competition with HDM

Agreed, not the place for this debate.

Well im going to side somewhat with Penton, and give it the he has to sell what makes him a check. Im thinking he had his HDDVD hat during that interview, maybe on the Universal hat is most likely working on a way out. I still think that interview is somewhat damaging, but it is coming from pretty much a nobody. I'll wait for CNN or FOX to do and interview and i'll take that word(still with a bunch or rice).

The only reason it has stayed open this long is to give amir a place to smack off and to give his loyal sheep a place to read his "infinte wisdom".
the only reason it ever existed was to give Amir a podium to spit out BS. Go back to the beginning of the initial thread there. Amir was posting a lot of BS in other threads and some people would call him out on it. With the insider thread if you called him out the posts would just be deleted.
