That definitely answers that question in the affirmative!

I guess I should have read Penton's statement a little more closely, although I still probably wouldn't have made the connection.

I checked on that (if only to confirm to myself that I still have a good memory for dem numbers) and the exact figure is 78%......according to the Digital Colorist that did the original work (which was scanned at 2k resolution).
How do I say how incredibly awesome it is to read tidbits like this without sounding like a complete suck-up?

Random fact:

Penton's thread here is the 2nd most viewed thread on the entire site.

1,061,243 views versus 1,096,259 views for the Home Theater Photos thread.

Actresses 18-39 is gaining fast though

I can't imagine why anyone even remotely interested in Blu-ray wouldn't come here every day.

It's a shame that only the theatrical version is being presented. I've seen that version many, many times, but actually prefer the Director's Cut. Too bad they're not giving us that option to buy.

I suspect Penton's thread has the highest signal-to-noise ratio on the board.

Quite the opposite of the LOTR thread which I have essentially stopped reading.

My big three are:
1) Penton's thread
2) Jeff Kleist thread - has a lower S/N ratio to me since I personally don't care for Anime and non-sports-video-games.
3) The Lost thread (but that will be ending soon enough).

I read Penton's and the Bits' threads quite often, I just don't post in them very much (this one basically not at all).

The LotR thread has become a joke....

I devote 90% of my forum time to the Movie Discussion section.

Hah!

Then carefully consider this Penton precursor of post production knowledge before you embarrass yourselves in front of others with naďve, knee-jerk responses to your *screenshot science* with The Natural -

By optically combining a re-photographed slightly out of focus color interpositive and a sharp B&W positive made off the same negative, this produced an _____ effect in some scenes of The Natural.

So, what does that ^ do (to the image)?....Oh, if only the *screenshot scientists* knew….before they choose to embark upon their misguided mischief with this particular upcoming title, which, FOTR aside (http://www.pepperthreads.com/peppert...irt/_p_3808000 ), typically goes something like this for every *screenshot* analysis -

Screenshot Scientist #1: Dude, the picture looks too soft, film has more detail.
Screenshot Scientist #2: I agree, someone turned the DNR knob up again. We was screwed.

Screenshot Scientist #3: Dude, it looks 'edgy' to me and I found a halo, that shouldn’t be there.
Screenshot Scientist #4: I agree, someone turned the EE knob up during the encode. My eyes are bleeding, bleeding I’m telling you from the sharpening.

Screenshot Scientist #5: I see foggy blacks in this scene.
Screenshot Scientist #6: I agree, blacks should always be ‘inky’ that is the definition of them. Looks like the mastering technician on the project is a moron……or, needs new glasses. I vividly remember this film from 25 years ago and not only do the blacks seem ‘off’ in some scenes, the colors have been digitally manipulated. Where’s the DVD for comparison, that’s always the gold standard for these types of color critiques.

P.S.
I hope you’re kidding me as to your movie-by-screenshot sentiment, as I don’t recognize you as a longtime static shot aficionado.
But if you are indeed serious, then I must say, every time we have one of these screenshot *issues*, this forum is like the Port of Miami with the Mariel boat immigration i.e., we get a lot of good folks sailing into blu waters but, we sure get our share of *scoundrels*with them.

Oh man, I wish I hadn’t written that last paragraph ^ in the P.S. because I feel I just encouraged Shark to post a classic Tony Montana quote.

There is nothing wrong with saying “Thank You”, which I think you just did, perhaps with a tad more feeling and passion.

I would love to give you guys some contact info for the Digital Intermediate Supervisor but, I fear he would be deluged with *screenshot scientist* inquires in an attempt to keep beating a dead horse (FOTR). So, in lieu of that, I’ll ask if there is a public link (perhaps an old interview) confirming that figure and possibly providing a little more insight into the pioneering post of The Trilogy.

I'm depressed I'm so predictable... sigh. And no, for the record, I had not seen your ps first...

Let me know, P-man, when you want to take this act on the road...

That’s rather frightening.
In retrospect, I sure am glad I decided to remain anonymous.

Some of those 1M+ views are surely geared towards trying to unmask you

That’s the problem. With all this AV social networking I’ve done, you would think that I would get at least one PM from a female member who looks like Zooey (on the last page) and “wants to Party”.

To my Wife whom I love dearly - Just kidding darling…….I hope I still get dinner this evening.
