Crosss-over trivia for JimSD and others: Mert (who is riding with the #1 plate in the YouTube clip above) is the only person to be in both the Mountainbike and Motorcycle Hall of Fames. I was very fortunate to meet and speak with him about motorcycling, On Any Sunday, etc. at a World Cup mountain bike race up in Big Bear Lake in ’99. Great guy......GREAT stories.

I think shark mis-spoke and was thinking perhaps of something else.....or, our sharkshark is hitting the sauce during the daytime.

Nevertheless, it provided a great lead-in for me to make a motorcycle trivia post.

I took my lady to watch The Great Escape a couple months ago and the print hit the bulb and melted.

Literal slackers, these projectionists today.

Ouch

I've never seen Great Escape in 35mm, something I hope to correct at some point. Unfortunately until the renovation is finished at my local reperatory, the screen is so small that a movie like that simply loses impact

EDIT- They're showing Silent Running on Earth Day though, might be worth checking out

If you think The Great Escape is a Lean movie I also have a bridge over the river Kwai to sell you

BTW: Did I miss out on this or wasn't there any discussion on the Champions League quarter finals this time around?

For me I have to say that even Arsenal fans should be in awe at what Messi is capable of on a good day - this guy is simply incredible!

And no British clubs in the semi finals? I think that has happened for the last time in 2002?

You know, one of the mods here brought up the exchange a few weeks ago and I mentioned I didn’t think that it had passed regulatory approval.

I’m still conflicted over seeing my favorite club team losing vs. watching the skill of most likely the greatest footballer in the world, singlehandedly dismember us.
However, this wouldn’t be a subtle way for you to comment on the Man U-Bayern match, would it?

Oliver, you wouldn’t happen to be from München or Bavaria? That was a damn fine match and I guess is another example of why people should never turn off the match after the first 15 min. or so.

Does anyone know if Franck Ribery or Arjen Robben (Kubrick?) are expected to be chosen as players for their respective nations in the upcoming World Cup in South Africa…

They will both be on their national teams unless they get injured. Oh and Lionel Messi is the best player in the world, not the balding Arjen Robben.

I thought of that but, what threw me was that you capitalized ‘Lean”, so I disregarded it and figured you were confusing the work(s) of the filmmaker. No biggie negative consequence here in the ‘Club’ but miscommunication in the DI suite can lead to poor outcomes....if the filmmaker isn’t sitting next to you and completely explaining himself with his terminology.
For example, even to this day, if a filmmaker says “I want more contrast in the image”. What do you think he means?

Without further explanation on this part, he could mean either –
The digital colorist should increase the gamma and thusly produce more solid blacks

Or
Does he want to increase the range of the contrast and actually have more milky blacks?

P.S.
Which reminds me, after RAH’s fine explanation here...https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post3081653

I hope we have finally stopped beating the dead black horse (Bram Stoker’s Dracula) into the ground for eternity, as apparently, the screenshot scientist in the above (to RAH’s) post with the handle “Biggiesized” doesn’t realize that “black crush” is nothing new as an intended look by filmmakers and is completely clueless to the accuracy of a waveform monitor in the telecine suite, which I had discussed previously.

Not to mention, being dismissive of the Director selected and approved Answer print used as the source for the Blu-ray. Even to this day, if a filmmaker desires a shot to be ‘black crushed’, if you don’t do it, because as a *videophile* you think of the appearance as some sort of mortal sin, then consequently, by lifting the blacks you will produce a milky grainy look and make it impossible to grade the rest of the shot to any sort of creative value.

I was serious.
I've just been so busy that it's been difficult to keep up even with the Arsenal games....much less the world stage.

Related to the above analogy, shark if you just said..."thick blacks", I would know exactly what you meant.
