Well, the postproduction sound was done at Skywalker and they have a gigantic sound library, some sound FX can be heard in Forrest Gump, which was done in 1994, so not quite everything was digital.

Heck, it took a while for recordists to record in true stereo, rather than remix mono captured material.
But this is fresh recorded dialog, and Lucas was the first to move the archive to digital anyway

I wonder if the location/set dialogue was captured digitally...

Like I said, most people had dumped analog on set by that time. Spielberg is old school, but especially making a movie like this, lighter is better

ANYONE WHO IS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH SYNC ON PRIVATE RYAN

I need

What version (US or UK)
What Blu-ray Player (make sure you are on latest firmware)
What Receiver (make sure you are on latest firmware)
Decoding internally or bitstream
Connnection (HDMI, optical, coax, analog) and whether it's receiver or direct to TV
Specific timecodes and other anectdotes where your problem is REPEATABLE. Please include variables like "after I hit the popup things go out of sync")

The more data I can get today, the faster and more accurately they're going to e able to move on looking into it

PLEASE POST IN MY THREAD SO IT'S EASIER FOR ME TO COLLATE DATA

Penton, maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I thought it was SOP for Sony to release all new movies on DVD and Blu-ray?

I noticed that Bill wants 1941 on bluray.

I have never seen 1941, but isn't it considered Spielbergs worst film?

Merrick, I’ve got to ask you if you’re in a Masters program and working on a thesis or just taking grad courses toward some other goal?

Yes, Fed is one of my favorite athletes in the world. Its just amazing the way he has dominated tennis. Watching him win the french open last year really solidified his place in history. Im a little disappointed with how he has performed as of late. He is letting far inferior people beat him. But I expect his level of play to rise at the French Open, but Im still going to go with Nadal as the favorite.

^ The film source was scanned at 4k and the quality of the master looked very good, actually better than I expected. In short, I was impressed with the outcome which is why I’m bringing this title to people’s attention. Might I humbly recommend everyone purchase Jason and the Argonauts because this Blu-ray movie represents quality work on an important film that should find its way into every cinephile's collection.
Hmmm, I never got all the excitement about the Harryhausen films but I will probably buy it anyway as for some reason I never managed to watch this one plus I would like to see the result of that 4k scan

Care to elaborate why more than half of Sonys Blu-Ray releases of pre 70ies movies are Ray Harryhausen films?

1941 has a few decent moments, but the movie mostly seems like a disorganized mess. And the movie hasn't aged well. I watched it a couple of weeks ago on some HD cable channel (RetroPlexHD I think) -really lousy video quality on that transfer; if it comes to Blu-ray it better get a new master. Some parts of 1941 I used to think were really funny just don't play as well anymore (like the scene with Belushi smashing off the top of a coke bottle in his plane).

AI was interesting, but pretty depressing too. Hook was pretty silly; I just couldn't get into it. Always got pretty silly too at times. Too much schmaltz can turn a viewer's stomach. Screenwriting teachers will tell you not to be afraid of getting sappy with the script. Unfortunately, it's harder to write that kind of stuff without making much of the audience groan from nausea.

Since no one else has showed their excitement, I will It brings joy to my heart whenever I learn older movies getting the treatment they deserve, this is an amazing time for us geeks.

And I forgot to give my thanks for the lenghty answers for 3D and potential health issues. Jeff has pointed out earlier some percentage of the population will always have problems due to some issues with eye allignement (or whatever it's called) which I apparently have, any movies can be enjoyed in 2D anyways.
Thanks.

I like sword and sandal epics, so I'll get it when it's $10-15.

It will be in my collection, I am supporting the release of all classic movies, and am excited about this release. I do wonder, Penton, why Sony hasn't released some of its bigger classics like Oliver (Best Picture), Funny Girl (Best Actress), Lawrence, Kwai, Bye Bye Birdie, Guns of Navarone? I know that classics are not the top sellers but we need more and I truly believe that with more on the market, it would attract a new demo for the format, classic lovers.
