Well, contrary to your "replacement" allegation, it's not intended to, so I hope you don't stay up nights worrying.
I'm over here not worrying about Dodge pickup trucks replacing Cannondale bicycles, so I can help you out if you need tips for staying calm. |

I beg to differ. I think that is the intention.

![]() ![]() Among Blu-ray enthusiasts, do you know what the Sony DADC plant in Terre Haute is most notably known for? Answer – The manufacturing of BD50s, see…http://www.prnewswire.com/news-relea...-58313472.html Damn, if that was truly “the intention” as you claim, then it seems like 72 million was just wasted ![]() http://www.indianaeconomicdigest.net...rticleID=59952 |

The thing with Ultraviolet is it gives people who buy Blu-rays much more freedom to watch movies how they want to. I think it'll actually help sales of physical releases. In fact, one of the features of Ultraviolet is people who buy a straight digital version are still allowed a physical copy, either by burning a disc themselves or ordering one. Not sure if it's mandatory for the studios to support, but it's interesting that it's there.
Granted, it'd be even better if they dropped the DRM completely, but that's not happening. This is a pretty good second choice, though. Managed copy would've helped too, but the extra copies were generally going to cost money and no hardware supports it that I'm aware of. One of my big worries about Ultraviolet is if smaller studios will be able to play too. I'd be thrilled if Funimation's anime Blu-rays supported Ultraviolet, but I get the impression the setup is mainly for the big boys. |

all this hate... wonder how many actually watched the vid... Nice to see this kind of consolidation of digital versions, and can see it do well to coordinate (ie., live along side) physical media like BD. Without Apple's involvement is yet again a non-starter, but it's certainly a more intelligent "do over" of the digital versions that are often pack-ins with physical media. Mitch's response to the Apple question is extremely well answered, and clearly well researched. I'm impressed, frankly, at his presentation.

Still, I think Android phones and tablets, game consoles (including handhelds), various set-top boxes, and PCs could be big enough to matter if marketed right. |

People complain about the bitrates iTunes and Amazon offer for music, but last I checked, CDs are still available, and studios still offer them. Heck, studios are even starting to offer vinyl LPs again, simply because there's a small market that wants them. You think there will be more people that will buy LPs than will buy Blu-ray movies? Now, granted, there is one problem with UV that Steedeel has been wandering near. There's a fair number of people that would like to store Blu-ray quality copies of their movies on a network storage box and stream to various devices on their home network. UV has a provision for network streaming, but there's no clear legit way of getting a full Blu-ray quality copy on the network storage that I've found. And since those people are mostly already finding their own ways of getting full Blu-ray copies on their home network, the UV people might want to get that figured out. |

So, Denon CI -
I take the day off today (since the surgeons want to cut on my body yet again and I figured I would 'pamper' myself with a vacation day) and go out on the links to see if anything has changed with my golf game. I end up dragging my sorry butt up to the 19th hole in complete and total submission…..all the time realizing for the first time in my life that ‘golf’ appropriately spells ‘flog’ ![]() Yeah, I 'pampered' myself alright. |

Blu-ray will last for the rest of YOUR life? Sorry pal, nothing lasts forever. I'm assuming as such a BD enthusiast you actually own some discs, right? Well there you go...hold onto them forever. Problem solved. You constantly whine on these threads every day about something that we have NO CONTROL over. You like blu-ray, I like blu-ray, we all like blu-ray. Enjoy it while it lasts, however long that may be, and stop crying about it's demise. You almost come across as a "reverse troll": You claim to love blu-ray, but yet in every post you keep moaning about it's demise to streaming. Despite, knowledgable posts to the contrary. How about everytime you feel the urge to post about the "forthcoming demise of blu-ray", you pop in one of those BDs and calm the hell down. Do you fret like this every time you cross the street? You never know what may happen! |
