Penton,
I love it! I can totally relate with my Golden "Champ"...even though he just turned 3(leagal to drink now), he's always going to be a puppy!
Thanks for the post, as I enter into another debacle of an NFL fastasy football week!

I am convinced that all dogs go to heaven, for certainly they deserve a place there as much as many human beings.

Oh, and the director? Steve McQueen.
Can that McQueen ^ ride a motorcycle fast too?

Just recently, In Darkness….

was presented the highest award (The Golden Frog) in the main competition at Plus CAMERIMAGE 2011 – for those not familiar, think of it as a prestigious international film festival devoted to Cinematography, for the most part.

A nice touch was that the D.P., Jolanta D. had the wherewithal to invite her operators up onto the stage with her as she accepted the award.

Sharkshark, if you missed the flick at the last TIFF, then see the review by ‘samlapidus’, as it should be at the top of this page ….http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1417075/reviews

I missed it, alas, but I love her TV work (from THE WIRE to TREME)...

Penton, I have to tell you, I finally decided to look at UltraViolet just to see the interface and enter a couple of movies that I have redemption codes for, just in case. Honestly, DVD and digital copies are useless for me, but I do understand some people wanting them.

Now onto UltraViolet. Trying to add Cowboys and Aliens, I had to go to two different websites (the universal site and UV site), sign in to Universal (forgot my password so had to go through that mess), then sign up for the UV account. Now I have to "link" the two accounts (at least I was led to believe that I needed to), then enter the redemption code (on the UV website, where it kept saying the code was not good, but after checking it must have taken it on the first try). Now that only took about 25 minutes.... So I decided since I had registered, now I can just register Hangover 2. Now I have to go to the Flixster site and register....yada,yada,yada......Now I have given up. This really is a complete and utter joke and must have been designed by some government agency....

Is this really the best that the movie industry could come up with?

Not to pile on, but I had a very similar experience with "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II." After fighting with the system for nearly thirty minutes, I lodged a complaint when I discovered that you couldn't actually download a copy of the movie on your iTouch/iPad at this point since it was streaming only. Thankfully the nice people running Ultraviolet sent me an iTunes code that I was able to use instead.

Well how the heck have you been ? I haven’t seen you around for such a long time that I had thought you gave up home cinema altogether as an entertainment/leisure activity.

Anyway, in this case (thankfully, for me personally at least) I have nothing to do with the development or workings of UltraViolet. Sincerely sorry to hear about the problem you and others (Denon CI) are having concerning its real-world implementation. I believe both your concerns are legitimate and significant; hopefully the kinks will be worked out of the system in time which would be to everyone’s’ benefit….provider as well as consumer.

As an aside, esp. since this genre doesn't get much buzz these days, I assume you’re a sci-fi fan (esp. given the title of the movie you listed) but, in case you’re also one of those few western aficionados we have left on the boards (like me), I was passed this newsworthy link from the L.A. Times yesterday….

No problem. See above. Hey, for some perspective, if you want to compare consumer horror stories, as a private consumer, I have been trying to deal (unsuccessfully) with this company now for over three months in regards to a product which I still haven’t received and for which my credit card was charged. Then, I found this link online, which typifies my *experience* with them…

Hey Penton, sorry if I was a little impersonal or sounded like I was blaming you, I was just frustrated at the moment and you are my only industry outlet!

I have been great (thanks for asking)and keep up with your thread through email updates. I haven't had anything to contribute lately, so I haven't posted in a while.

When it comes to UltraViolet, it doesn't seem like a bad idea. I just would have assumed you registered once and all of the copies would be available through that one registration. The thought of having to register with each individual studio bothers me. I would have assumed that the companies would have learned their lesson with the different specs on 3D glasses, which IMHO has slowed adoption. Of course that is another can of worms...

I am somewhat of a western fan but not enough to watch it on tv. Interesting to see westerns making a come back though! I haven't thought about it but there are no westerns that I know of on tv anymore. Maybe that will help get "firefly" back on the air!

The wife and I are really enjoying the new western themed series (Hell on Wheels) over on the AMC HD channel. The show has some terrific writing, gritty frontier town ambiance and some great actors. To name just a few, you got Colm Meaney, Tom Noonan and an actor that seems to steal every scene he's in, Christopher Heyerdahl as "the Swede" and that's kinda tough to do considering the caliber of the other actors involved in the show.

+1
Hell on Wheels is a very good show! I'm at the point where I'll watch any show on AMC! Look at their lineup: Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Walking Dead, The Killing, & Hell on Wheels.
Although I will give honorable mention to Showtime's Homeland, another very good show!

^Rick, if I recall, you’re also a big MIB fan. Expect the trailer for MIB III - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1409024/
to debut in a few days...on 12/12, to be precise.

Ahh, thanks for the heads up Penton! I'm looking forward to it!
While, somewhat, on the topic of Sony catalogs...how come 2012, so far, doesn't look to bountiful for Sony catalogs?
Short of LoA, I have not heard a lot of Sony catalog "chatter" around the internets! Please be the bearer of good news P-Man!

nice try using flattery to pry some confidential information out of me. I’ll say one thing, it’s certainly more professional than the carrot and stick technique, which others have tried, so you should be complemented at least for your approach.

Keep in mind, unlike the editorializing public proclamations by some bloggers in the past that “what was really going to drive the adoption of Blu-ray was how aggressive the studios were with their catalog titles”, the real-world reality of catalog, as a whole, is, and has always been, this…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-mo...ml#post5507485

so, adjust your expectations accordingly. As to what drives the restoration work of catalog (such as LoA), it is not just the Blu-ray home media market but, theatrical exhibition (at film festivals and theaters in general), digital delivery, streaming, and Blu-ray all come into play.

Shark, do you know if the Hobbit trailer is going out with Tintin in general release in North America?

Well? You like?

b.t.w., I quickly perused the Bad Boys II thread in the Movies – North America forum. To set the record straight, BB II was never announced by the studio, despite all the speculation starting on page 1 and continuing onwards from there over the intervening months. Secondly, there is no currently scheduled release date for BB 2 on Blu-ray in the US.

I notice that thread has become rather ‘sporty’ (although it pales in comparison to the ‘debate’ on the Fright Night thread ) thusly, it may be time to call in the Mentalist to join in the fun (watch to where he gets involved with ‘social media’)…
