Why does anyone think that DRM hurts artists? I don't like DRM, but it most definitely does not hurt artists, but it's all a moot point because for the most part, Apple DOES NOT USE DRM anymore.
Besides, even when they used it, it wasn't Apple who wanted to implement DRM, it was the insistence of the record labels. Blame them. What hurts artists is people stealing music via illegal downloads, giving MP3 files to their friends, posting music that they don't own on YouTube and other places and the fact that most people now buy singles instead of albums. While they certainly have the right to purchase singles, that change in consumer behavior, more than anything else, is what has destroyed the record industry for which revenue in the U.S. is now below 50% of its 1999 peak even without considering inflation. You know why concert tickets for big acts are priced at several hundred dollars? It's because the acts can no longer rely upon the records business for any income. As for BD, I don't know what watching BDs on a small computer screen gets you other than the fact that if you don't buy a combo pack, you won't be able to use your BD to watch the movie when you're not at home. But my reality is that when I watch BD, I want the big screen and I want the multichannel sound. I can't get that on my computer anyway. The biggest issue for me with Apple not supporting BD is lacking the ability to burn my own content to BD. If Apple doesn't want to embed a BD player in their computers, that's their business. Rumor has it that future Apple laptops will have no optical drive whatsoever. I'm sorry to see that happen, but I can always buy an external DVD burner. But I do think Apple should support BD reading/burning in the OS. That way third parties can produce hardware where Apple doesn't want to. |

But what do I know? I keep forgetting that I like their products not because they help me accomplish things I want to do in a very elegant and enjoyable way, but because I'm a brainwashed zombie cultist. Last edited by Doctorossi; 02-24-2012 at 05:57 PM. |

What's apple done? Have the iTunes store open 6 years before a BD player was even on the market? Keep beating that horse.... |

No matter, I’ll leave that pic alone because like movies, fashion is highly subjective. P.S. As to the prior pic, no way a coyote, looked more like a Lab to me. |

Now they're pushing AppleTV plus video downloads: and guess what they use as a marketplace for VIDEO. You guessed it: iTunes. ![]() Amazing the excuses people will come up with to justify Apple's attempt at monopolizing media in both hardware and software. At least with Microsoft it was all about software, and when HD DVD failed guess who added Blu support to their operating system? Last edited by PeterTHX; 02-24-2012 at 08:57 PM. |

How ignorant can you get?
They weren't killing the CD; they were saving the music industry from the dying CD that was being killed by uncompensated downloads. The CD was starting to flatline before iTunes was a twinkle in Apple's eye. |

Even if iTunes did kill the CD (which it didn't), how can you not blame the consumer? Apple could make 1,000 iTunes stores, but if people still preferred CDs, that's what they would've bought. Yes, Apple is so terrible for giving people what they want.
