For example, the following assertion is just ludicrous even if one knows absolutely nothing about the fovea, parafoveal or peripheral portion of the retina “To actually gain benefit from the concept of HDR the actual viewing angle the display would need to occupy would be in the order of 45°, which with an average large TV of 55" would means sitting just 65" from the screen.” And the paragraph entitled “HDR – The reality & associated issues” starting out with the proclamation - “The biggest issue with HDR is that it can actually be painful to watch, due to what is often termed as excessive eye fatigue...” seems way overstated now that we have real world content where Ray’s buddies in the HDR sandbox on AVS are getting HDR boners rather than “excessive eye fatigue”…... http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lc...ted-often.html |

![]() The blue halo led behind the screen will be at 50% percent during coming attractions and completely off for the presentation. EXIT lights will dim to around 30% as will the runway lighting. ![]() |

Well I saw Tomorrowland in Dolby Vision/Atmos at the El Capitan. Last night saw Star Wars in Dolby Cinema at the Burbank AMC. The picture was much better than IMAX - blacks were *black*, immediately noticable in the opening crawl. AMC even has custom Dolby Cinema announcements before the film starts now (don't use your cell phone, etc). |

I’ll watch Star Wars in IMAX 3D and on a 91’x69’ screen, just as J.J. Abrams suggests:
“Asked about the ideal way to watch The Force Awakens, Abrams told Associated Press that IMAX is the way to go, and specifically, laser projectors. “You cannot compare a traditionally projected image with a laser image,” Abrams said. “The blacks are true blacks. It’s almost as if you have to adjust to it.” “As someone who really hasn’t been the most vocal advocate of 3D, the strangest thing happened to me on this,” he said. “When I was watching the reels in 3D, there were a number of shots — and I know this sounds insane — that I hadn’t understood in the three-dimensional space quite the way I did when I saw them in 3D. I actually felt that there were things that were playing better in 3D. I had never felt that before. And if people have access to a theater that has laser projection, it is shockingly better.” http://bgr.com/2015/12/11/best-star-...-awakens-imax/ http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-S...MAX-75177.html http://www.wired.com/2015/12/best-star-wars-screens/ http://www.techinsider.io/star-wars-...-or-3d-2015-12 http://bgr.com/2015/12/11/best-star-...-awakens-imax/ |

Sony have done it plenty of times before (remember, it's the 3D part that restricts the 3D/2D DCP to 2K) but I've never heard of any other studio doing the same thing. Still waiting for confirmation on Star Wars...

Yes, but Sony released 2D versions of those movies as 4K DCPs.... Not the case here, the 2D version is still 2K

Film-Tech forum reports that the DCP was 2K for both 2D and 3D.
