"Samsung made the announcement at an event they are holding in Spain where they also confirmed their new range of Ultra HD TVs would be 4K Netflix app ready, also from March."

So, is the Netflix stockholder/4K physical disc cheerleader conflicted by this?

Little ‘ol me being the obvious “Netflix stockholder/4K physical disc cheerleader” to which you refer?

lol, Ray you are a provacateur.

My answer is No, not at all….give me a few minutes to try to find a link to explain so I won’t have to go through the trouble of scanning and posting the last letter to shareholders. The only thing I’m conflicted over today is whether I can ride my bike (against Doctor’s orders) with only one leg, and in so doing, not further damage or impede the healing to my other extremity….if I hang it out in the air to the side.

They’ve got me on crutches, but I’m starting to go crazy without any real physical activity involving my legs.

Pertinent paragraph being…

“At CES this year, we promoted Ultra High Definition (UHD) 4K technology with several key consumer electronics partners, announcing that House of Cards season 2 will be in 4K as well as all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad, and our future original series. 4K streams are encoded at 15.6 Mbps, well within reach of a
significant minority of our members
, and the reach of capable 20Mbps broadband connections will continue to grow. Since the number of 4K displays sold in 2014 and the number of available hours of 4K content both will be relatively modest, the short-term impact of 4K is mainly on consumer perception of Netflix as a leader in Internet TV."

You're at that stage of life where the mind says yes, but the body says no. How well I know.

I have a solution for you:

I feel much healthier mentally as well as physically today, as I came up with a solution.

Cycling without legs - YouTube
That’s not riding, that’s cycling with your arms. I’ll save that solution for when, if, God forbid, I ever permanently loose function in both my legs.

Anyway, I improvised by removing the left crank arm so the pedal wouldn’t whack my left foot and then installing a rear skewer with a large handle thru the rear wheel, where I can gingerly rest the foot of my bad leg while peddling with the good. And when I get tired of that I ‘sit’ on the saddle with the bottom of my left thigh just dangling my knee and lower leg out to the side.

Man, it’s tough to pedal uphill with one leg…esp. off road, when you’re not accustomed to it but, I gave it a go and as long as I don’t crash I think I should be okay. Biggest problem seems to be on the way to my riding area, nice concerned citizens are slowing their cars down and asking me (because I probably look so pitiful) if I need a lift or some other aid but for which I fear they might get rear-ended by the driver behind.

In-ter-est-ing, given the fact that the original finish by Technicolor was at 2K rez.

4K news at the production level -

“In addition, in a new endeavor for the company, Panasonic will record the opening ceremony to be held in the Olympic Park in 4K with the cooperation of the IOC and OBS, which will be used as the company's own video production materials.”…http://news.panasonic.net/stories/2014/0124_25794.html

On the bolded note ^, I would expect the cameras recording the opening ceremony, with people walking and waving, to be….4K/59.94p 10 bit 4:2:2.

Sporting events…reminds me to post a follow-up to Steed’s query about American football. One moment to do a key YouTube search.

Don't feel badly as I would bet a significant % of Americans think the game is being played in New York rather than New Jersey.

Anyway, one unique thing this year is that each team comes from the only 2 states (in the United States) that have legalized recreational marijuana, namely Washington and Colorado.

Perhaps instead of beer commercials in the past like ‘this Bud’s for you’, an innovative advertising agency for either state office of tourism could feature a commercial with a tagline like ‘this tokes for you’...I wonder how well that would go over with viewers? Or maybe have some singers do a musical thing like thee old classic (from Ray's time) ‘One toke over the line’…..

b.t.w., Paramount sales reps were informing many bookers (to the theater owners) of the ‘no more film print’ news back in mid-November, but everyone kept it on the down-low.

Who will be the next domino to fall? Place your bets ladies and gents….
WB, Fox, Disney, Sony?

Tell you bro, with Sony, and now Samsung introducing download 4K players with streaming capability, it really doesn't look too good for 4K Blu-ray unless the BD is clearly way superior (and this still needs to be seen, everyone assumes it will be bad but I really don't think so).

Being first to market, while not a real gauge of success, is no small feat either. Make it easy, and good quality at an appropriate price, possibly sell the bonus material as an option if interested. I don't know, but even I wasn't seeing it happen so fast buddy, and I've made a few, let's say, not friends on this topic lol
