personally, i’m sensing a positive evolution in thinking on mike’s part as to becoming more amenable to HDR….

i.e. he’s gone from ‘hate’ to ‘just don’t like’ HDR.....given what he's seen.

mike, if you’re looking to replicate more of the ‘film’ projected look, i’ll say that at least for black levels ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...g#post11121678 ) given the fact that over the past years digital projectors for most theaters have been somewhere in the 2000-2500:1 range and projected film used to be in the 3500-5000:1 range, thusly, there’s been some loss of range with theatrical digital projection and so i would think unbiased cinephiles would like to get that range back…..

HDR does a better job at achieving the black levels of film than does SDR presentations in the theater.

Coming Around Again / Itsy Bitsy Spider - Carly Simon - YouTube
I am sure brighter colour will make that live concert from Martha's Vineyard sound soo much better

Thanks.

Yeah the Derby was superb. Even if we go down, six in a row won't be beat!

Anyway I will stop with the footy talk because I know some folks get a little twitchy with such outrageous off-topic posts!

might I humbly suggest for starters, the lobster bisque.

p.s.
singhcr, you’ve got to watch Season 2 of Fargo, (which is set back in the late 70’s) as again the show is truly entertaining – http://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/...atter-feminism

I will have to check that out, thanks! I am always a fan of dinner and a movie. My friend and I enjoy going to the Trylon theater in Minneapolis that shows several films in 35mm, from Akira Kurosawa to John Woo (The Killer in 35mm!) and other movies like Tron. Matt's Bar, famous for Jucy Lucy burgers and being visited by the President, is nearby, as are many other places to eat. We enjoy good food with good movies on film.

So far all of the HDR systems announced for theaters have used laser projectors.

Which consumer HDR systems have you seen? Most of the consumer HDR systems that have been announced have not yet been released.

perhaps not “soo much better” in terms of synergy, but when watching a favorite concert at home on a large flat panel or projector, i do think that a superior visual quality will be additive to enjoying the total experience while relaxing with your partner on your favorite furniture. might be best to consider all stimuli *in concert*….pun

not yet listed on the official program….http://www.camerimage.pl/en/Schedule.html
but a heads-up to all our members hailing from Poland (aronm, etc.) as to a planned discussion on Nov.20 (I think in the Seminar Room of the 1st floor of the Opera Nova Congress Center) -

Join filmmakers in a discussion about their experiences using the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES). Hear how it helped them preserve the creative vision and maintain greater control over their on-set and DI looks. Learn how filmmakers integrated ACES into their workflows and how it sets the stage for handling the explosion of multiple distribution masters, including HDR (for mike ). Share your thoughts in an open and friendly discussion with the panel.....

Theo Van De Sande, ASC, cinematographer
Peter Simonite, cinematographer
Francesco Luigi Giardiello, Digital Imaging Supervisor/Digital Workflow Supervisor
Moderator: Steven Poster, ASC, National President, International Cinematographer’s Guild
Introduction: Michael Tronick, ACE Film Editor, Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors

I know whom it is and he is crap at his job if you ask me, all his work with Nolan is ugly as sin
Compare the piss filter he uses all the time in Spectre to the stunning work of Deakins in Skyfall.
Not even a contest

DVB UHD-1 Phase 2 will start the approval process in a few weeks and will have support for HDR and HFR. If things go well the standard will be released next year and services will start to appear in 2017.

Well I sure hope Mendes did not let him use handheld cameras in Spectre, it is hard to tell from the trailers. Was really hoping Deakins would be doing Spectre but it was not to be .
