“Just repeating HD match coverage in a higher resolution may not be what gets the consumer excited,” Grinyer said. “What might though, is using 4K in a different style--using the extra light [dynamic range], or higher frame rates, or new depth of field for certain shots.”

It’s difficult for me to accept that people actually get paid for writing articles like this… http://tech.lifegoesstrong.com/artic...y-4k-uhd-84-tv
What I mean is that this assertion from the article is just plain wrong - “But none of the current UHDs include HEVC decoding, and likely won't until next year. This means no current UHD set will be able to play back future 4K (HEVC encoded) content.” |

I'm sure he's referring to a future broadcast or cable standard that would use HEVC as the encoding method. |

Your typical HDTV has an MPEG-2 decoder if it can get over the air signals, but otherwise it decodes nothing- your Blu-ray player or whatever device you are using does that. Your HDTV just displays whatever signal it gets from the HDMI ports as the video/audio is already decoded before that point. Also, the current HDMI spec (1.4?) can already transmit 4k video at 30Hz. |

I know most of you are thinking right now…’Yeah, he loved motorcar engines too as he raced in things like the 12 Hours of Sebring where Mario Andretti only beat him and Revson by about 20 sec. after 12 hours of racing, with Steve driving in a foot/ankle cast… http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vau...ne/MAG1083468/ Wrong. ![]() One of the characters he portrayed also loved steam engines on boats….. |

![]() And not only the technically inaccurate assertions stated in that article about HEVC decoding but, as I noted previously in the middle two paragraphs here ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...al#post7456457 ), I’m finding it rather hypocritical of so many of these online tech writers now to be suddenly exploiting the technical deficiencies of current HDMI 1.4, when there has been such a clueless, disinterested response to frame rates > 30, for anything other than gaming. Although, I would say to serious 3D aficionados who are interested in a future-proofed 4K display purchase that it would indeed be a good idea to jump in after HDMI 2.0 connectors appear on these sets because that has the potential to unlock the door to better 3D applications. |

I would expect HDMI 2.0 to go to 594MHz for 60fps, or 30fps in 3D. For the color theoretical thinkers out there, 12-bit color would be theoretically possible but only with subsampled 4:2:2. |

So is anyone here eager to pick up a copy of Sony's 4K Remastered titles?
I'm considering grabbing The Amazing Spider-Man, to compare. |

Bluray is supposed to be the pinnacle of home video. Every title should be stellar, without any need for re-releases, fixes, remasters or any other gimmicks. If they can't get things right the first time then you should not support these companies by buying their product. It has just become a joke at this stage. |

lol, so in response to this post which I made on another thread here - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...cp#post7520036 , I receive a PM from a sarcastic fellow priding himself as a “loyal member of the HTF” (which is another forum on the internet) as a qualification to inform me that “commercial theaters don’t do 4K DCPs PERIOD even if they have 4K projectors because there is no distribution system for that to be”.
My response was “Yeah, I read essentially the same thing on the internet back in 2010 from a guy who happens to be a professional cinematographer, scroll down to post #35 - http://www.cinematography.com/index....c=48789&page=2 In the following post (#36) on that same page, Antti, who is a projectionist in freakin Europe, set him straight.” I haven't heard any response from the fellow who PMed me. |

So, for example, getting a new fresh high-rez scan from the proper film source with authentic color correction will be of most value to titles like Ghostbusters and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, if the later is ever announced to be remastered. I itemized the more esoteric benefits here with the value being maximized for consumers who own, or will own Sony 4K tv’s….https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...it#post7512866 Last edited by Penton-Man; 05-10-2013 at 01:10 AM. Later on it could be physically *possible* to do a hardware upgrade to achieve 4K 60fps but, whether or not that would actually be offered (and happen) for 1st generation PS4’s already in consumers’ homes, is another thing entirely. |
