It breaks down like this... (1) The Avengers (2) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (3) Captain America: Civil War (4) Avengers: Age of Ultron (5) Iron Man (6) Thor Ragnarok (7) Captain America: The First Avenger (8) Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (9) Ant-Man (10) Iron Man 3 (11) Thor (12) Thor: The Dark World (13) Guardians of the Galaxy (14) Doctor Strange (15) The Incredible Hulk (16) Iron Man 2 Iron Man 2 being the weakest by far yet still around a 7/10 or so. THAT is a STRONG slate. The only real argument could be GOTG Vol 1. I find that film to be overrated yet still quality fun. I can see the greater appeal. |

Great list. Captain America FA definately deserves more appreciation. But your list is good. |

The First Avenger was pretty good. Loved the retro WW2 vibe.
This scene worked really well to distinguish Cap from other heroes. |

To me, Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Avengers 1 form a perfect superhero trilogy.
I must confess that I find Captain America 1 and even Thor 1 as being very good movies, even if Thor 1 is plenty of flaws and MCU Thor sucks. Captain America 1 is amazing. Age of Ultron is entertaining. Guardians 1 is a very good movie. Dr. Strange is brilliant. Winter Soldier and Civil War are great. Last edited by UniSol GR77; 12-07-2017 at 11:10 AM. |

Although I think IM2 isn't that bad, especially compared to IM3 (IM2 has a better third act), I agree with the majority that say Thor: Dark World is the worst. But the first Thor film and Captain America: The First Avenger seem to be two of the most underappreciated Marvel films, and are essential to the entire MCU. CA: First Avenger is actually one of my favorites.

You owe it to yourself. It is one of my favorites.. It’s one of those movies that when you come across it on cable, you can’t stop watching it, just like MoS for me. ![]() |

First Avenger has the better personal growths of the debuts.
Stark need a revelation. Thor need humility. Ant-Man needed redemption. Hulk need more Ed Norton demanding to make this a Banner film. Steve was a real underdog. They added the "serum needs a man w/ a good heart" factor that was not part of the source material. That added a nice extra layer to his gaining superpowers instead of just being a straight-up lab experiment. The WW2 setting is pure Marvel/Jack Kirby/Stan Lee/war-era origins of the comic book spirit. |

I think it's a testament of the MCU quality that even if after TWS, CW, The Avengers, GOTG, Ragnarok, IM & HC, you then have TFA, Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor, GOTG2.
It gets harder ranking these movies with each movie as it's like splitting hairs at this point. |

Thor is good but not great, and shouldnt be given more than what its been rated as. I have real serious issues w/ the lackluster Destroyer fight, and the Loki fight, which is so not Thor-ish. Loki doesnt usually try to out-physical him. And for that to be the climax is a letdown for me. The Destroyer is a mutha****a (armor that takes on Galactus) and could have been the climax.
But I really enjoyed his stay on Earth, the jokes, and the bonding w/ Foster and friends. |

Thor (2011) establishes the mighty god of thunder while effectively delivering humor through its protagonist’s lack of familiarity with Earth and teaching lessons of restraint and humility via the drama between him, his brother Loki, and his father Odin.
This is the creme of Phase One’s crop, in my opinion. Maybe it’s due to the old fashioned style of British English spoken by the Asgardians or the elegance of Sir Anthony Hopkins - which suits his role as the King of Asgard - or the classically dramatic character arch of the titular character himself, but Thor feels sophisticated compared to its counterparts and therefore worthy of a level of respect exclusive to itself. The transition of the protagonist from an impulsive and arrogant would-be king to a considerate and humble rightful heir to the throne is in-and-of itself respectable, but that it is depicted in the context of a touching and dramatic intrafamilial conflict makes it honorable, thanks especially to Tom Hiddleston’s passionate performance as Loki and the aforementioned elegant portrayal of Odin by Sir Anthony Hopkins. As a testament to how well constructed it is, Thor organically weaves humor into its plot via its hero’s lack of familiarity with Earth (e.g. 'I need a horse!), thus rendering the Son of Odin as unintentionally funny and subsequently maintaining his classiness and therefore that of the film. |

It would have been interesting to see the Destroyer be activated and fight Hela in Asgard tbh but that's just me musing lol.
I'm okay with watching Phase 1 but there's that early years issue or two that creeps up. They've improved the movies production and whatnot but there's still this lack of gravitas in quite a lot of the Marvel films I feel with few standout exceptions. |
