IMAX partnering with Arri doesn't mean they're taking a stock Alexa 65 and throwing an IMAX sticker on it and calling it their own. Like with the Phantom system before it, it means IMAX is taking what Arri has and modifying it to their standard, and that does include sensor size/native aspect ratio.

I imagine it will be photographed in 1.43 and projected that way for theaters capable, and cropped to 1.90 for smaller 2K venues and 1.85 for standard theaters. They might take a page from Nolan's book and go 1.43 for real IMAX's, 1.90 for 2K IMAX's, and 2.35:1 for theatrical, but either way, that model they've been using since 2008 will likely remain in tact for this release.
Agree with this...

Their standards for their 3D digital camera seems to be pretty low then (1.90:1 for the 3D camera).

Hell, actually, the aspect ratio kept shifting to whatever the hell it wanted in that movie.

I'm sure it's been talked about on this thread or another, but does anyone know if all four main avengers (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk) can be in both parts of the Infinity War under their current contracts?

Earlier I heard rumors that some would only be obligated to appear in one more film by the time Infinity War came around and thus likely to be in one part or the other unless contracts were renegotiated.

What's intriguing about the IMAX laser system is that it's apparently using the stock 1.90 sensors for 4K digital (so 4096x2160) but with an anamorphic squeeze to realise the 1.43 IMAX ratio, kinda like the reverse of Panavision, filming a taller image on a wider frame, instead of capturing a wider image on a taller frame. It's possible that the IMAX version of the Alexa 65 will have that specific anamorphosis built in, either on the chip or with custom lenses. It'll make for some unique-looking bokeh and will certainly pose questions for VFX houses as they deal with how to replicate the visual idiosyncrasies of this new format.

Transformers Age of Extinction is quite odd. It was shot in a variety of different cameras and resolutions.

Michael Bay shot this with 35mm film, RED EPIC Dragon in 6K, and the Phantom 65 Gold in 4K. Each giving different ARs.

No one outside Marvel knows what the contracts say, or which movies count towards contracts, etc.

That said, the current rumor is most of the "core" avengers are not around for Infinity War part 1 and return for part 2. As far as who is "core" then, we will likely have a better idea after Cap 3 (civil war)

Chris Evans mentioned in a interview recently that they would be shooting Avengers 3 & 4 back to back and that he would be there a good portion of the shooting schedule. So I think the most likley situation is that all the original Avengers will appear briefly in 3 and part 4 will feature them heavily.

It's a bit difficult to know how heavily involved they are until we've watched Civil War and Thor: Ragnarok. This two stories play the biggest and most important parts in the lead up to Infinity War.

And we still don't know the whereabouts of Hulk. BUT I'm still looking forward to Civil War because of Thunderbolt Ross! Among the extensive cast, his name was the most surprising. I really wasn't expecting anyone from The Incredible Hulk to appear again.

Casting Underway for Magus

Quote:
According to SpoilerTV, auditions are now underway for Marvel's two part epic, Avengers: Infinity War lead and supporting roles. The auditions for the roles will be taking place in Los Angeles, CA.

One of the roles that Marvel is looking to cast is apparently the one of Magus. In the comics, Magus is the evil counterpart of Adam Warlock, who was created by Lord Chaos and Master Order in order to oppose Thanos. He later assembled the Infinity Gauntlet and created doppelgangers of Earth's heroes as part of his plan to recreate a universe of evil.

“Auditions are now getting underway for the Marvel Studios feature film ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Part I’ lead and supporting roles. The auditions for new lead and supporting roles will be taking place in Los Angeles, CA. The film is the first in a two-part sequel in which Thanos plays a major role, along with the Magus. Adam Warlock’s bad side, the Magus, separates from his body and assembles the Infinity Gauntlet. Magus creates doppelgangers of Earth’s heroes as part of his plan to recreate a universe of evil. “Avengers: Infinity War – Part I” will be shot entirely on the IMAX/ARRI 2D digital camera.”

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 & 2 will be directed by the Russo Brothers and is expected to shoot for 9 months beggining late 2016.

This is how I know Steve Rogers will at least be in Infinity War II

You think Marvel would really let that opportunity pass them by?

No way Marvel passes that up. No way. Audiences are going to cheer, clap, and lose their minds.

Steve will be there to stand up to Thanos and to finally say those beautiful words... "Avengers assemble!" And the crowd goes wild.

Personally, I will probably either wet myself with excitement or do the more manly thing like squeel with delight.

Yes because squealing with delight just screams testosterone and manliness.

I'm worried about the sounds that are going to come out of me when I see Spider-Man alongside Cap and Iron Man for the first time.

No, I actually never make a peep during movies (aside from laughing), but sometimes it's almost involuntary. I remember the audience went NUTS when Hulk smashed Loki in The Avengers. That movie had a ton of audience pleasing moments where I thought I was at a sporting event, the way the crowd was going wild.

Normally I like no noise during a movie, but for big event movies like this - like with Jurassic World recently - people clapping and cheering, and being around that energy, it doesn't bother me. It just makes the experience that much more fun (especially if it's a moment where there's no dialogue, so the audience's loud reaction doesn't cause you to miss anything).

There will be a lot of moments like that in IW part I and II, really fun to think about.

So Meg Ryan in the Diner reaction from "When Harry Met Sally" is out of the question?

It'll be more exciting than that but you grabbed the general gist of it, yes.
