Depending on the marketing I think Part 1 has a slim chance. Part 2 is more likely to reach it but it will be completely dependent on how good Part 1 is.

I don't think anything will get close to Avatar anytime soon. $2.8 Billion is a LOT of money. Even Force Awakens couldn't get within $700 Million of it. These would have to double the box office of the original Avengers to top Avatar.

I think if anything ever catches Avatar it will have to be a function of significantly increased ticket prices (which they have already increased a good bit since 2009).

Only guess I can see of films already announced is Episode IX if the Chinese market becomes more receptive of Star Wars. But even that won't happen I think.

I hate Avatar but it is the highest grossest movie of all time (without accounting for inflation) and money is all that matters for Disney.

I believe if this doesn't reach close to 2 billion then Disney will view this as a failure. But then you have all the money from tie in merchandise so who knows.

I don't see Episode IX even reaching Force Awakens numbers. Force Awakens had the benefit of being the first Star Wars movie in 12 years. Now we are getting 1 every year. I'm sure there will be some Star Wars fatigue by the time Episode IX comes out.

Waving that numerical achievement isnt the determining aspectof a successful project.

Money is all that matters to these studios at the end of the day. These type of movies are not made to win awards.

Kevin Feige Responds To Criticism That All Marvel Studios Movies Are Basically The Same

Marvel Studios releases hit after hit but that doesn't stop a lot of critics and fans accusing them of being formulaic. In fairness, Iron Man and Doctor Strange were extremely similar and the movies set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe undeniably have a lot of similarities. During a recent interview, Kevin Feige was asked about whether he believes that's the case and his response was very interesting.

Feige didn't exactly get defensive but made it clear that all he cares about is moviegoers enjoying Marvel's work. Ultimately, that's probably what's most important but how about what comes next?

"I think it’s just the way we make the movies. I think all the movies are relatively different. I think there’s a narrative that people like to write about because they’re all produced by the same team and they all inhabit the same fictional cinematic universe. And I’m not saying there aren’t common similarities throughout it, but I think Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming are two totally different types of movies. They’re both fun. People both enjoy them. Is that a similarity? If so, I’ll take it. If that’s a criticism, I’ll take that, too. But really, yeah, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Panther, into Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp after that. And a ’90s-set Captain Marvel after that; these are six very different movies. Feige makes a fair point and you need only look at the response to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok for proof that the studio knows what it's doing. It also sounds like 2018's releases will be much, much different and it's hardly a stretch to assume that Avengers: Infinity War will be unlike any other superhero movie before it. What do you guys think?

Thanks for the article.

For those who feel the movies are all the same, it would be nice to see a list of what else can be done with Super Hero characters that doesn't involve their greatest strength, which is the action-fantasy genre. I can't imagine watching a strictly dramatic film with no action. Logan the movie was a more realistic and brutal take on a Marvel character that was entertaining that could be classified as a drama, but it definitely didn't forget the action, so I wouldn't mind seeing more movies with that style.

So far, the genres covered include:
Fantasy
Action
Sci-Fi
Drama
Comedy

What else can they do with it for the critics against the current super hero movies? As an action fan, I enjoy watching most of them and have been waiting a life time for more super hero movies.
